So this guy I know calls me...

I know him from the range where I shoot. He asks me if I reload .223 or .30 cal.

"Why, as a matter of fact, I'm just getting into reloading and those are the first 2 calibers I'm starting with", I tell him.

He tells me about this guy who's selling bullets, powder and some ammo.

So I call this guy up... IMI 55gr FMJ, $100/4000; .308 Sierra Matchkings, 180 gr, $14/100 ; .308 Lapua, 167 gr, $13/100; He'll be getting some different kinds of powder later in March.

Best part is, this guy's a retired Army armorer. I never met the guy before and he talked my ear off for 1/2 hr when I called him. It was strange. As soon as I mentioned that I was reloading .30 cal for my Garand, it was like someone hit a switch. It was like having Scott Duff or Jim Thompson on the phone for 1/2 hr. Damn, this guy really knew his s***!

Competitive shooting, loading information, accuracy, this guy knew it.

I gotta go pay this guy a visit real soon. If things go right, I'll get some great deals on components AND get to spend some time listening to the ramblings of a retired armorer!

If he is willing to teach learn as much as possible, everytime I go to my FFL's house I learn a ton of stuff usually about reloading, competative shooting, guns in general.
