This is the Colt King Cobra Target .22, I picked up in early January of this year. To date it's been 100% reliable and superbly accurate. But after 200+ rounds I just wasn't happy with the fiber optic front sight nor the Colt supplied rear. The first for its lack of precision in slow fire, and the 2nd for the set screw operation to lock the windage.
I elected to get the Wilson Combat replacement sights for the Cobra and like them a lot. Installation was easy for the front, but the rear required some judicious use of a fine cut jeweler's file, and a bit of jiggling to get the pivot pin re-installed.
In use, I really like the gold dot front sight. It's visible in most any daylight and the flat face does not induce windage nor elevation problems with slanting hard sunlight. Too, it's very usable for straight up target use, allowing a good level "post top with the rear sight ear's" hold. Here's a side/rear angle shot of both sights. The Wilson rear extends back from the frame a bit more than the Colt original, you may note.
The size difference if any between the KC and the Diamondback isn't evident in the shooting hand. The real difference is the superb DA trigger pull on the KC. Colt has finally figured out how to do it! The SA triggers on both are comparable, and about the same as my M-18 Smith, and that's saying something.
This 2rd pic has my .22 Colt revolvers on the left with the Smith models 63 & 18 on the right. Up until I bought the King Cobra Target .22, that M-18 Smith was my most accurate .22, equaling the M-41 I've had since the early '80's.
This last one is the King Cobra with the holster I made up for it. Easy riding, OWB of course, and snug enough to allow carry without a keeper strap. And yep, you guessed right that the grips are Altamonts, well finished and just enough for a full, pinkie on wood hold...Best Regards, Rod
