SOme questions on the Desert Eagle

I have an officer who is curious about how well some of you Desert Eagle owners like your guns and what you have to say if you didn't like it...
Also, where you buy magazines, ammunition, parts, etc and what materials you use to clean your piece...

Mine is a stainless steel frame .44 mag, with black chromed slide and barrels (6" & 14"). Had the front strap checkerd and trigger reworked.

No doubt it's a handful for most people...but changing grips can make a world of difference. I've got the Houge rubber grips, great for hunting....lazer engraved walnut grips, nothing better for show.....and the original factory hard plastic. Checkering on the front strap prevents the pistol from turning in your hand...I'd highly recommend anyone to have this done.

Accuracy is pretty incredible....I've taken Antelope with the 14" barrel (4X Burris) at 200 yards...one shot drops. The gun is capable of some very impressive groups. Have used the 6" barrel for short range Whitetail hunting (100 yds or less). Dropped a lot of critters with this set up....no complaints with performance.

Down side is the bulk and size, but once you get use to it...not a problem. Can be a little heavy carrying all day.

The DE's are not what I would consider "A gun for a beginer". I love mine, it is great to shoot and super accurate! They can be fin iky about how you grip them, because of the way the mag "floats" in the well. As for cleaning it, I use the same stuff as for everything else, I do spray them down with gunscrubber after stripping and cleaning it. Then I will wipe it down with CLP or a light oil. The manual gives a very detailed set of instructions for cleaning. I haven't bought any replacement parts yet, but when the time comes for new springs, etc.. I plan on ordering them straight from their website.

Another important point is only use jacked bullets.

you ahve to use jacketed bullets. On the cheap side, I find american eagle 158gr SJSP and magtech 158gr SJSP operate my mark XIX .357 reliably.

As for magazines, i buy them used off of gun broker, the older ones are MUCH friendlier on the fingers. The new ones seem a lot sharper.

You ahve to clean it well, and fairly often. It is accurate, and I liek the trigger personally.

accessories are pretty slim, and mostly available from magnum reaserch.

READ the manual, cover to cover. UNDERSTAND what it says about cleaning it and especially the section on how to shoot it. It will make the difference between an unpleasant jam-happy experience, and what is a really fun gun.

It is not for self-defense, it's for the range, or for hunting.
