Hi, folks --

I also posted these questions over at the S&W forum, but it's a fairly low-traffic site (but a good one!), so I thought I'd try here.

1) what is the grip thickness of the 2nd generation compact double-stacks (the 469 and 669) like? I seem to remember seeing a post somewhere comparing it to holding a brick. Is it that much worse than the 3rd gen models?

2) what is the DAO trigger of the 3953, and especially the 3953 Performance Center model, like compared to other DAO pistols, such as the Kahr? What is the reset like compared to the Kahr, and also compared to the standard DA/SA (i.e., compared to a 3913, for example)?

3) Anyone know of a custom gripmaker who could make grips for
a. the cheif's special 9mm, CS9
b. the frame-decocker models, such as the 1076 10mm?

I appreciate any help or advice!!

Best Regards,
Liam

i can only answer one of your questions....

it is not that the grip of the 469/669 were worst because it was a 2nd gen smith. it had to do with thinness. they wanted the stocks as thin as possible...m-439 thickness with m-459 gripframe...so as the approximate the feel of the ASP/DEVEL custom m-39's

the stock panels are very thin with almost no curvature and the thing feels like a 2x4 in your hand.

My impressions of he S&W's you mentioned & from the 2 I've owned. First off, good luck finding aftermarket grips. The only ones I've seen were the slip on sleeves from Hogue & Pachmyr. The triggers of the DAO models were nice/very nice...almost revolver nice but not quite. I hvae no experince w/ Kahr so I can't compare - sorry.
Good luck.

Ive had 3 DAO S&W's...the 3953 was a short and smooth trigger.....the other was the same...but pull weight was up there.
The 5943 SSV I have is a different story......It has a Performance Center trigger and is better than most Kahrs......nice.
Shoot well
