Got some $ saved up, and am looking for a rare gun.

Not rare as in "Sherman's private sidearm during his march to the sea." But rare as in i'm not going to run into very many people who can say: "Hey, I got one of them back at the house."

Been looking at Magnum Research's BFR (either the insane 45-70's or the 45LC/410).

To the point, a friend sent me a pic of a Mateba, and I can’t get it out of my head. Questions:

1: Does anyone know of a site, in English, that has unbiased (meaning they are not trying to sell me the gun) information about Mateba's?

2: I usually see them blued, occasionally nickel plated, but do they make a model in stainless?

3: Does any company in the U.S. market them, like Magnum Research does for Israeli Military Industries?

4: If you own one, what do you think of it? And suggestions, recommendations, or warnings?

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

What I want to know is...what IDPA division does a Mateba fit into ;-)

I hear their not the fastest to reload however.... cool factor is huge..

They shoot in the RFG (Really Funky Gun) division. It's an easy category to win at most matches, since your competitors in RFG can't get ammo for their Gyrojets. ;)

eixid,

I like my Mateba a lot; nice bluing, pretty walnut grip. It's accurate, once you get used to the trigger (although the DA pull is nothing to write home to mom about). You'll probably be the only person at the range with one, which is kinda cool. Negligible muzzle flip shooting hot .357 loads. They're a bear to strip for cleaning. Someone (AndABeer?) posted some stripping and reassembly pointers over at TFL (I should bookmark them; I was in tears during the process the first time!).

QuarterBoreGunner: Glad you picked up on that. Thought about calling it: “Bring forth the Holy Mateba of Antioch.â€

TAMARA: Thanks. Do you prefer the 357 mag Mateba to the 44 mag Mateba? Or do you just prefer and 357 over a 44?

Did you just find yours collecting dust in some random gun shop? I live in rural Georgia and the local guns shops here aren’t real knowledgeable unless it’s a Colt, S&W, or something similar. I’m weary at purchasing one off the internet other than from the manufacture; know if anyone at the Mateba Arms web page can answer an e-mail in English? Besides, I would like to at least hold one before I part with my money. Know of anyone in Atlanta?

That thread is comedy gold. Especially:

I hope yours was defective and mine's a breeze to reassemble, because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate
10 minutes later...
Apparently, yours is not defective

hehe

The first triggerpull is a normal double action pull, it cocks the hammer, and then releases it, firing the gun. Upon firing the upper part of the frame recoils. This movement then cocks the hammer, and automatically rotates the cylinder. When the upper frame has completely recoiled, it is pushed forward again by a spring. When it has returned to its forward position the gun is ready to fire another shot, only this time a light pull in Single-Action mode, as the hammer is already cocked and the cylinder rotated.

Is there a can opener on the side? Can it be used to adjust windshield wiper blades? Can you flip hamburgers on the grill with it, too?

You think the pistol is funky

I just saw a picture of the Mateba auto-revolver carbine. Kiesler's wholesale is supposed to have them for around 8 bills. 18 inch barrel with compensator. The one I saw was .357, not sure if they make a .44. Tamara, you have to get one, matching set and all doncha know.
