I had planned to stop by my local friendly gunshop, the Bullet Hole, to see about them ordering a stripped lower for an AR-15 project and get the RAMI I've been wanting.

Well, they aren't sure if they can get me the lower. So I looked at the CZs and started talking about the RAMI when I saw that they didn't have a P-01, they had an 85 Compact. Ut oh.

So . . . instead of getting my project started and getting my RAMI I ended up with my RAMI and having this follow me home:

The CZ 85 Compact. The prices they were offering were just too good to pass up and since I bought them all together they came down some on the light too.

I'm $1100 poorer and about $1500 happier ;)

Good job! That is a nice pic. Can I use it on my CZ-ZONE 85C page?

Litlman, no word yet that I know of for a 85 Compact in 9mm although there are rumors of the P-01 in 40 S&W (AKA P-04) and the SP-01 which is the IDPA production class 9mm. You can find out more in the P-01 forum on CZforum.com

Ya, the 85 Compact will be back-up from my primary "bump in the night" gun a Bushy M17S. Now I just either need to take the scope off so I can use the light on the rail or (more likely) add a rail for the light on the M17S ;)

My super-duper AR project may continue Monday depending what the boys at the store find out. I'm trying to get a DPMS stainless lower but they don't make them anymore so they're going to see if they can find some new old stock.

Then I just have to find a source for the Oly .243 WSSM upper that goes with it and pick up some good magazines so I can modify my cheap Orlites for it.

Next upper planned after that is a Beouwolf. Then a 10mm if AWB sunsets. Then I might think about getting a .223 :D

you can spend anywhere from 500-infinity building and AR....and they are not hard to put together, as long as you have the tools, and someone there to explain all of the tricks to you.

My buddy has built many of these, so he has the correct tools and knowledge.

check the link above that picture for more info on that build.

Range Report

OK now, I'm not letting some accessorized AR hijack my thread ;) So here's a little range report.

I ran to the range this morning to get some quick shooting in before heading to work. The RAMI shoots great for me. I put 28 round of moderate 165 gr target reloads through it and 16 rounds of hot 135 gr hollow points.

12 of the rounds went through one of the EAA Witness .41 AE magazine I got from CDNN and modified for use in my CZ 40B that I later traded to Eric. It worked flawlessly and unlike the big mags in the baby Glocks there wasn't any slop in the magazine and it provided a solid purchase for my pinky.

The trigger on the RAMI has a very smooth double action like a smoothed or broken in CZ. The 85 Compact is a bit rougher feeling like a typical new CZ. Both single action trigger pulls are slightly rough and long, typical new CZ triggers. This only seems to hurt the accuracy in very slow and deliberate fire however. If I just "wing it" I shoot them very very well.

The RAMI's accuracy was pretty darn good for such a short barrel and sight radius but flash was quite noticeable even using my favorite low-flash powder Universal Clays. I also got noticeable primer swipe with the hot 135 grain loads. I think I'm going to try a 155 grain HP and some Tite-Group and see if I get lower flash.

Only had one failure to feed and it looks like it was an ammo failure not a gun issue. It was the 7th round of the 1st magazine and I think the round was too short because it hit the top of the chamber opening and stopped.

I did all the shooting at 10 yards and even aimed rapid fire I got all the shots in a B-37 target (reduced B-27 man-size target). So all shots would have hit COM at 20 yards. Trying to rest I shot very poorly. 2 handed standing I got the best results. Out of 16 rounds I got 4 in the x ring and the rest within 5-6" of it and grouped together quite well. Lighting in the booth was poor and the sights a bit difficult to see or think I would have been more consistent because it produced 3 separate 2-3"" groups.

Then we have the 85 Compact (which came with an 85 Combat manual). Magazines drop free and the extra nose weight from the rail makes it flip and feel almost identical to my full size 9mm 75B. So far I'd have to say it's the most accurate centerfire auto-loader I own beating out my Glock 24 P and 75B. It's definitely the most accurate .40 S&W I've ever shot, although I've never gotten my hands on the CZ 75 Standard ;)

Slow fire at 10 yards I get a ragged hole that slowly expands depending on how many rounds I put through it and how sloppy I get. If I do my part 1" at 10 yards is pretty easy. In a ransom rest I bet this thing would be impressive. Hmm, I should check the test target.

Something I should have tried but just now thought of was putting the 75 upper on the 85 Compact to see if it functioned. I'll give that a whirl next time I'm at the range and let you guys know :D

Hey Snowman - I asked this over on CZF, but I don't have access to that forum from work so I'll ask here.

Isn't that a full length grip on that CZ-85 Compact ( like the -75B & not PCR )?

Does anyone know anything about he slide??? Is it the same dimensions as the P-01? Is it beefier? It looks a lot like my PCR slide. Soooo - I suppoese night sights would be an easy install, huh?

External dimensions it's identical to the P-01 but it's steel so noticably heavier and has the controls of the 85 Combat. Both ambi and over-sized.

Also it has rubber grips. My full size came with plastic grips. I like the CZ rubber enough that I probably won't put Hogues on it like I do most of my other guns but I'm thinking of slapping some grip-tape to the front and back for that little extra tackiness.

And I keep forgetting to try and put the 75 slide on it to see if it fits. It has a firing pin safety unlike the 85 Combat, so it apears to be a whole new beast but other 75 series slides should work. When I get home I'll see if I can remember to try it and to upload some addtional pics.

I got distraced last night loading up about 450 target loads before I ran out of 165 gr bullets

Cool. Thanks!

Are they (CZUB or CZ-USA) giving any sort of special serial number order to these babies . . . . . . Like 1 through 80 etc....?
