Hello all. Looking at case cleaners and have been looking at the sonic cleaners offered by Hornady and Lyman. Has anyone had any experience with these? If so, how do they do compared to just a tumbler and some walnut media?

Thanks.

I've been using one for my rifle stuff for a few weeks, its from harbor freight. If getting the inside and primer pocket is of more value to you then shininess, then ultra sonic is your ticket.

Just my opinion, others will differ.

Frankly if I had to start all over I would go with a roller style tumbler and S/S rod and soapy water for case cleaning. This will clean the inside of the case and the primer pocket, plus leave the case shiney.

As it is I'm 67 yrs old with 40 plus lbs. of corn cob and a vibrator tumbler. SSSSSoooo, guess what I'm going to keep on using.

I didn't realize that the sonic cleaners didn't get the cases shiny. I'll probably stick with the ol' tumbler then.
I like em pretty.

They will get them shinny but I'm lazy and don't want to go through the hassle of the extra washes.

I did some .243 last night. If you want I will post a pic of them when I get home and you can judge for yourself.

I found out that you have to be careful in your choice of cleaners in your US as well (or at least not forget a test batch of brass in the cleaner for a few days...)

I had a couple .38 special cases come out DARK brown after a few days in the cleaner, when I forgot I'd loaded it for a test run using Alconox as a detergent.

50% water, 50% white vinegar and a few drops of dawn dishsoap is all you need. Add a rinse with a tablespoon baking soda to neutralize the vinegar acid when done cleaning.

I only clean mine for about 1 hour. Mine also has a built in solution heater which does help speed things up.
