Sounds like Calguns.net is going to close

Yeah, that's a bummer. They should find out if someone is interested in taking it over. Can't just shutdown.

I might have been too hasty. Some of the regulars @ calguns are trying to see if they can keep it up and running. Either way, it sounds like Calguns could be down for a while.

That blows! I've only recently discovered calguns, but they were a nice place to hang out & jus shoot the stuff...hope there's a person out there willing to take on that place & make a goal of it!

Calguns.net is shutting down!

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/announcement.php?f=63

Wow, the eye of the storm during the Offlist Lowers frenzy is shutting down. Ramon will not be renewing his hosting plan, so in effect, Calguns will be closing first week of November (like SGVGC). The threads HAVE to be archived somehow--too much vital info for CA gunowners to just let that site drop off the face of the earth.

What in the name if JMB is going on here? :banghead:

Yup, just read Ramon's announcement not too long ago. What a bummer!

I'm bummed about CGN, but I gotta admit I didn't check it much when the classifieds was taken down. Oh well...

(M. , why are all your threads about places shutting down? First SGV, now a thread on Calguns... :D )

FYI this is a duplicate thread:

Whoops. And I looked, too. Must be blind.

Justin, do your thing....

(Thanks for the merge, Mods. :))

At the risk of being flamed, good riddance. Things went downhill very quickly over there and the only solution is to start fresh.

Could be you're right, STAGE 2.

Looks like that's what they're gonna try to do: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=40485

I don't blame Ramon, personally. I think there's some truth to the the rumors that the site brought unexpected attention to him from the DOJ. That, coupled with his personal family issues, makes him cutting bait understandable.

Anyways, efforts are underway for a passing of the torch. Let's wait and see, eh?

Banning the for sale forums for firearms and then both firearms and accessories without any explanation whatsoever, skewing the word filters so people can't discuss the abuses of power by the CA DOJ, a couple of overzealous mods closing other threads that were in complete compliance of the forums rules.

There were enough disgruntled people that several threads were started about changing the site rules, and even closing the site down and starting over. The writing was on the wall a couple of months ago.

Let's not close the books on it so fast...I've been there almost since it
started. Let's just see what happens. Ramon does have a lot of issues
going on and it grew pretty good. Things started getting pretty wild
when the OLL ruling/situation came to. Anyway it was and still is
a darn good site and if things work out will continue to be so.

when i tried to post Stag Arms stripped AR lowers, which were legal for sale in CA, on calguns.net, i got alot of flack from alot of people there, especially the admins. granted they were under the microscope of the CA DOJ, i still felt it wasnt warranted since they had a letter from CA DOJ posted on the site stating the Stag Arms lower was indeed legal for sale.

i figured it wasn't worth the trouble and just stopped altogether.

im looking forward to their replacement which i believe is gunscal.net or something like that.

i'm looking forward to their replacement..

The replacement for Calguns is going to be..
Calguns.

Calguns.net will not be closing down, I have been a Mod there since the beginning and recently I have been Admining the boards since Ramon stepped back to deal with family issues. When he decided to close it down to focus more on his family I started talking to him about buying the forum and taking over.

Within the Month I will be the owner of Calguns and I have every intention of continuing it's existence. I may make a few changes as time goes by, I think Ramon has made a wonderful place for California's gun owners but there are some small things I'd change if it were up to me. Nothing earth shattering just a bit of tuning.

Hopefully the new ownership will be more forthright with the members and even possibly be receptive to their needs such as reinstating the for sale forums.

I agree, I think the site was good at one point but I have lost some interest in it as of late. Too many little kids posting over there, among other things. Hopefully the new ownership will be a positive thing.

Kestryll,

Calguns is the best resource and gathering place for California gunowners, bar none. All one has to do is search here for "Cali-bashing" to see a relatively tame version of how Californians are often (mis)treated on other gunboards. In short, Calguns is a very necessary site and needs to stay open, period.

I'm glad you're the one taking the reins. From what little I've read, you've handled your Admin duties with patience and grace (no mean feat, considering some members' attitudes). I hope that carries over to Calguns 2.0. I'd also like to make a modest donation to help offset some of your costs, if possible. Please PM me with details.

If I may, I'd also like to add my voice to those asking that Calguns be more receptive to its members' needs. While I respect Ramon and his wishes, I think it was a mistake to try and return Calguns to it's roots. Calguns outgrew Ramon's initial intentions with the whole OLL craze, and instead of trying to close Pandora's box, he should have recognized the newfound need for his website, and he should have adapted. I think Calguns 2.0 needs an updated and amended mission statement.

Easy for me to say, I know. DOJ's not mad at me for what my idiot members did. Nevertheless, if the new Calguns is just the old Calguns, membership and activity will just continue to decline. And how is that a good thing for furthering California gun rights?

I lived in Ca for quite some time

Ca gun owners are terriffic people, very active in promoting guns and shooting.
Very involved. I really miss Ca's gun culture. Here in Reno it's dang hard to get people organized to right the wrongs still going on.
It's great compared to Ca but needs improving.
Yay for a new improved calgun
