I have read an article on one of those major outdoor mags, claiming that southern white tail bucks are smarter than the ones in the north, east and west.
I can't say. All of the bucks that I have killed have been in the South. I don't have anything to compare it to.
After about two years old, they are pretty smart. Before that, they're pretty dumb.
I can tell you this. In Georgia, if you're in a stand with good fields of view...the odds are low on seeing a big buck.
Friend of mine killed a nice ten point two years ago. Using a stand where I told him there was a chance of a good buck. Only one problem...about four seconds max to acquire a sight picture and shoot. He got the buck...after sitting for three hours with a shotgun shouldered and resting on the guard rail.
Reckon that I'm a lazy hunter. I knew the spot and knew what it would take. I just wasn't ready to sit for hours with a shouldered weapon.
The biggest part of any hunt though is staying in the woods.
