Southern CT ranges

After about 5-6 weeks off of the board, I'm getting settled into my new place.

Can anyone recommend any good private or public ranges in the southern CT region?

There is an indoor range at New England outfitters exit 64 off of Rt15. Decent place but not all the lanes work at the same time.

My favorite is this one www.hrsa.nu very inexpensive but only open to the public on sat and sun. But if you join it sounds like it is well worth it. Its outdoors and they let you shoot different stuff other than targets (fruit and home made targets) as long as you clean up after yourself. Great people there too. High Rock is exit 26 off of Rt8

There is also Blue Trails. Very expensive compared to High Rock and you can only bench shoot rifles, but they have a 200yd range. Its exit 15 off of I-95

There are a couple others but I have not been to any other that the above three. New England Outfitters is great for pistol and winter. and High Rock, well you just can't beat the price around here.

Hi Jim, Blue Trail in Wallingford has a set up for bench rifles, a 25 yard pistol, and a hand thrown trap area. If you have a yearly pass there is a 200 yard range and metal plates for an extra fee. New
England outfitters has 2 indoor ranges and a rifle tube. I'm going there today. They always charge by the hour and get more expensive on weekends and evenings. Blue trail only charges by the hour on weekends.
There is a pistol range in Bristol and the S+W range in Mass.
There are a lot of rod and gun clubs. I'm looking into the mattabesic(spelling?) club they run plate shoots open to the public on weekends.

I think there is a range off of I84, Exit 3 in Danbury.

Another in Waterbury.

If you are looking for indoors, there is Bpt. shooting range and also Fairfield county range in monroe.

For handgun and shotgun, there's www.bridgeportshootingrange.com, in well, Bridgeport. Decent facility, a pleasant lack of attitudes and they hold unofficial IDPA matches on Tuesdays. Just keep your eyes open in the parking lot, that's a tough neighborhood.

Down in Norwalk there's a handgun range at Forest & Field. Very nice facility but some of the biggest attitudes you'll ever encounter in a gun shop.

In Danbury there's Wooster Mountain, an outdoor range. They alternate days for skeet/trap and rifle and pistol. Nice setup and relatively cheap but it's only about 75 yards. If you want to shoot distance, better go to Blue Trail.

Thank you for the information on ranges in Southern CT.

I've found the private ranges to be almost cost prohibitive with initiation fees near the $200 mark, dues around $200 etc etc.

Vermont cost about $10 a year on up. So far I've never paid more than $80 a year for membership to a private club with facilities that equal or surpass what I've found in CT so far.

In the summer, I typically shoot outdoors at Wooster Mountain (Danbury-Ridgefield), but High Rock would be closer to home. One thing I like about Wooster Mountain is that they let you shoot at different distances from the same spot. I can shoot pistol for an hour, then switch to rifle and move my target out further.

Does High Rock work that way? Or is it like Blue Trail where they have specific requirements about what distances you can shoot at and you can't shoot pistol on the same range as you shoot your rifle.

DW High Rock has a section that is for pistols only but you can shoot any distance from the other positions.

One thing that High Rock is missing is any kind of brass ejection shields for semis since the firing positions are kind of close together.
