Do you maintain your primary carry handgun in any special way? My G30 seems to collect more than it’s fair share of lint and dust when I’m carrying it, so I take it down once a week just to blow out the dust bunnies. I may give it a few drops of oil if it needs it- (not much though, I ruined a nice shirt with a little CLP that rubbed off once).

I’ll also give the rear sights a good look, as I’m constantly knocking into doorframes and such while carrying, to make sure that I’ve not whacked them out of the center of the slide- I know I know, it would take a pretty good hit to move the sight out of true but it could happen.

So how about it? Do you have any specific maintenance procedures for your CCW?

No. All my guns get the same outstanding care and maintenance!

However, I use FP-10 on them all, and my CCWs don't seem to collect lint or dust.

I field strip mine at least once a week, not including cleaning after range sessions. I make sure she's dust and lint free and oil her if she needs it. Nikita gets a lot more attention than my non-carry guns!:D

Unfortunately my carry weapon doesn't get near enough care considering the oil and such it must endure with everyday carry, it really gets neglected. However, on the bright side I carry a Makarov so I'm confident it will stand up to more neglect than many other pistols.

My carry piece is made of purely imaginary materials from the land of Oz--scandium, titanium, norustium, all the good ones. Clean it when I shoot it, but other times? Just blow the dust off and go. :D

just blow out the dust bunnies to avoid embarassment when someone asks to see your gun...it is only an appearence thing, the bunnies die when the slide slices through them or they are squashed by the recoiling hammer. :scrutiny:

Grease the rails, wax the slide, and wipe it down with a silicone cloth once a week.
I use a Blade-Tech iwb holster for CCW. I sealed the bottom of the holster off to keep dust out.:)

My carry gun gets wiped and carefully inspected weekly, and at least once a month, I unload it and swab the barrel and chambers. I strip it down to the frame for extra cleaning and oiling every three or four months.

Trying not to be clean freak...

Some guys I shoot IDPA with only clean their guns once a month.I usually clean mine after every time I shoot.Even if it's only a few rounds. On sunday night after practice I got home wiped it down and put it away!!!It's driving me nuts and I think i"m going to clean it today.
So am I a clean freak..........how often do you guys clean your guns and if I didn't clean it every time I shot it would it be bad??:(

I consider just about everything I have to be a "carry gun". I lube with Militec-1 and RJ told me to get a "Rig-Rag" for wiping down the outside. RJ was right. Most of my guns look almost new.

Unfortunately here in Kali, you’re restricted to the firearms you have listed on your CCW card. Get caught carrying anything not on the card and that’s grounds for revocation of the permit.

QuarterBoreGunner: No special maintenance other than checking the bore for lint. I've bumped into door frames occasionally, but with never enough force to actually move the sights.

Since my carry guns are Glocks, they don't get too much extra special attention. Just a drop or two of oil when it runs dry, other than that I try to keep the dust out of it, but I have "the plug" to help with that. My BUG is a Beretta mod. 21A in .22 lr, I don't carry it too often, but when I do, I make sure that it is properly lubed, as I know Berettas like oil.

My current CCW pieces are autos. They get a total cleaning and lubing after any range trip. In between, though, I give them a wipe-down with some RIG lubricant at least once a week, more often if I've sweated on them while carrying. On that note, one of my carry guns is a 1911 and I remove its wooden grip panels once a week to insure no surface rust is trying to settle there.

Beyond that, every two weeks I field-strip them and wipe down and re-lube slide and frame rails.

I'd suggest giving FP10 a try as well. It seems to collect less lint and debris than BreakFree CLP did.

I usually go to the range once a week, so I'll shoot everything I've carried that week so they all get regular cleanings. Other than that I just wipe them down every couple of days with a rig rag.
