I just read about an interesting feature on some browning shotguns including the Gold and Maxis called speed load. when the bolt is locked back on an empty gun, the first shell that you load into the magazine tube will be instantly loaded into the chamber as soon as your thumb leaves the loading port.

My question is, are there any other manufacturers that make shotguns with a similar feature or if there is some way to mod another brand of shotgun to behave the same way.

Thanks

The Browning A5 was the first shotgun I am aware of to have the speed-load feature back in the 1950's.
I'm not sure of any other brands that have it besides Brownings.

Anyway, almost any semi-auto can be loaded as fast or faster by throwing the first round into the ejection port and pressing the bolt release.
I more often do it that way on my A5 then using the speed-load feature.

IMO: The most useful feature of the Brownings is the magazine cut-off switch.

It makes quick & safe work of unloading the chamber to cross a fence, set out decoys, etc., without having to jack all the shells in the tube out on the ground.

...you hope... See "Garand Thumb"...

The most useful feature of the Brownings is the magazine cut-off switch.

Berettas provide the same functionality without the switch -- but they don't have the "speed load", which is fine with me. I prefer the bolt to stay open until I push a release button. It's Remingtons that dump shells on the ground, though they have something that accomplishes the same thing as the speed load. They close the bolt when you feed the second round. The problem is, that's what prevents the Remington design from having a chamber-clearing function like either the Brownings and Berettas do.

How about the possibility of modding an existing autoloader. a Winny SX2 for example. I know that its almost a mirror image of the Gold. what would have to be done to it?

rc- which browning models have the magazine cutoff?
