Is there anything that can be done to stop NICS delays? I know many people that never get delayed, but I seem to get delayed every single time I pick up a firearm. Im usually watching people who came in after me go with their brand new firearms. Sometimes I'm waiting a few hours, and other times a full day. Can anything be done ony end to speed the process up?

You can call and request to get a pin #, it requires a background check and fingerprints but it will stop the delays. Your ffl dealer can get you the info.

Providing your Social Security number is voluntary but it will speed up the background check. Especially if you have a common last name.

I always provide my SS# and ask they give that info first if they're calling in. I'm usually cleared before they finish giving the rest of the info.

Whats taking so long? Mine are always as long as it takes my dealer to read off the info. Even when I was a dealer I never had anyone delayed.

If you are in one of the approved states, get a concealed carry permit. I think there are about 30+ states that only need to record your CCW number on the 4473 instead of running an actual check.

There is an Ace hardware store that has the 4473 on line.
You can fill it out at home then go to their store and complete the deal.
They fill in all their end of the paperwork.
Not sure if it speeds anything up but I thought it was interesting.
I have a CWP and I always put my SS# on the form and it never takes more than a couple of minutes.
My buddy bought a pistol at that Ace and at the last minuted discovered he didn't have his CWP with him.
They told him he had to wait the 5 days.
He went home and got his permit went back and they called it in again and he left with the gun.
With our new law (I594) every gun transfer and I mean every transfer has to go through an FFL.
