Wondered if someone might have a speer reloading book and could give me the OAL cartridge length for a .308 Win loading with a Speer 170 gn flatnose SP hot cor Speer #2041. Powder charges / FPS for IMR 4064 would be great too.
Would love to buy another reloading book but Mama thinks I spead too much on reloading already.

Thanks
Dave

It is not listed in the .308 Win chapter of the Speer manual because it is not a .308 Win bullet.

The Speer #2041 170 grain FP is a 30-30 Win bullet.

However, the correct seating depth would be where the cannelure is located.

You can use .308 Win loading data for 180 grain bullets safely.

If you plan on hunting with it, be aware it might be a little exuberant on rapid expansion at .308 Win velocity.

Well that would explain why it was the only thing close to 165gn left on the shelf. Good advice on the expansion. I'll give these to my uncle he loads 30-30.
Thanks

Actually, that bullet is a bit "tougher" as .30/30 bullets go. I know of several people that use that bullet in their .308's and .30/06 for deer. They like it very much, as it is very accurate.

It's a bit tougher than either the Winchester or Remington 170's. Expands a little bit faster than a 165 intended for the "faster than .30/30's" but will still give excellent penetration at velocities up to 2,600fps. Many of the guys reloading for the new Marlin .308MX are really liking this bullet because of it's excellent ballistic coefficient.

I'd seat them just short of the cannulure. Just as long as they chamber easily.

A starting load for the 165gr bullets would also be OK. 40.0-42.0gr of IMR4064, Reloader15, or Varget would get my vote.
