Speer Ammo: Duty vs Personal Protection

Speer offers a 9mm 124 grain Gold Dot +P load in both their Duty and Personal Protection lines. Both list a MV of 1220fps and 410fp of energy.

Are these in fact different rounds or are they the same stuff just packed into different boxes?

Same round, usually the duty line comes in larger boxes (50 vs 20 or 25).

That's exactly it.
Some old-timer at the shop told me they would use thicker brass, or different primers... but until someone breaks out the microscope, I'm not buying it.
Just the Duty, because it works the same and comes in bigger boxes.

Most of the time the Duty ammo has a bonded core. The older Remington Golden Saber duty ammo was bonded. The non-duty was not.

Don't worry. We've all had to deal with their "wisdom"- Occasionally correct, commonly absolutely wrong.

Concur with Gunny. I favor Winchester 180 JHP in my EDC Glock 23. There are two flavors, protection=non bonded, duty=bonded. Same hold true with Hornady Critical Defense and Critical Duty loads of the same weight.
