Anyone ever tried it? It seems to be reliable in my crappy little .25 pistol.

The reason I ask is because I am planning on buying a Beretta Jetfire ASAP. I probably shouldn't be spending money on a gun right now, but the Jetfire has been discontinued and there is a gun show next week...

Ya, I know, it's a .25 ACP, it's wimpy. I don't want the thing for a primary carry gun, just as a back up, or something to carry for those rare times when my Makarov is too big...

Anyway, back to the ammo thing. I have a box of 35 gr Gold Dots in this calbier, and looking at the hollow point, I notice that it is really deep. I also assume that since these things are alot lighter than the standard 50 gr bullets, that they go faster. So it seems to me that they'd be reliable expanders, but I have not done any tests with this round, other than to see if it would cycle my Raven reliably (and it does). So here is what I'd like to know:

A: Have you tested this round youself, and if so, what were your results?

B: Should I just stick with FMJ bullets in such a small caliber?

C: Would you consider the Jetfire a decent pistol (despite the fact that it is a .25 ACP?)

#1: I have FIRED it, but didn't do any kind of testing.
#2: I would stick with FMJ
#3: Yes

Never shot that ammo.

Prevailing wisdom suggests that .25ACP FMJ ball is the most effective, as the energy of the cartridge is insufficient to expand hollowpoints, and so penetration becomes the more important factor.

I have a Jetfire. It is an excellent, accurate, and reliable handgun. Still, it is only a .25. It will kill, it just takes time. I would suggest a KelTec P32 as the better choice for a hideout gun. The Jetfire is a blast to plink with, however, the ammo is expensive.

I don't know about the Gold Dots. If I were to carry my Jetfire I think I'd have a Magsafe in the chamber followed by a mag of either Fiocchi fmjs or Hornady HPs. I bought mine strictly as a back-up gun to heavier iron. Everyone says the Jetfire is an excellent (and reliable) gun for what it is. I've only put 66 rounds through mine; so far so good.

I have shot and carried it in my colt vest-pocket. It expands in wet newspaper and milk jugs (paper). Speer desighned to bullet to expand at .25 acp velocitys; So I can never figure why people think it wouldnt work? My vest pocket is very reliable with it, but I have never tried it in a Beretta.

In order to be effective, a bullet must penetrate the vital organs of the body. The .25 ACP cartridge has minimal penetration. Using a hollowpoint would limit this penetration even more. This isn't the direction we want to go with this cartridge. I don't know if the Gold Dot bullet will expand or not at .25 ACP velocities. As was mentioned, it was designed to do so, so it stands to reason that there is a good chance that it will. However, the most beautiful perfect expanded bullet that doesn't reach the vitals, is not as good as a bullet that doesn't expand at all and punches a hole through one or more vital organs.
This is a question of priorities. First we have to have adequate penetration. Then we can worry about making the hole bigger. But not the other way around.

A lot of us have Jetfires...

The last time I asked her (and she actually answered an e-mail:D ), Tamara had Gold Dots in her Jetfire.
I have some, but I usually keep mine stoked with Magsafes.
Mine is the "inox" version. It came with black plastic grips, but I bought a set of smooth walnut Jetfire "EL" grips off of Auction Arms. (Jetfire EL's have long been discontinued.) Even though my Jetfire is about the same size as a LOT of other pocket pistols, it just feels better in my pocket. I forgot who it was but someone left a recent post which read, "As soon as I get home, the Jetfire hits my pocket". The Jetfire is a great little "sitting around the house" pistol. :)

All the "Experts" State that you need 12" of penetration in ballistic jelly for People purposes. The Speer .25 Gold dot had something like an average of 11.5 if I remember right, and it reliably expanded as well. The CCI stinger .22lr 36 grains (close to the same weight) exceeds 12" but does not expand at the average velocity of 1100 fps out of a 2.5-3" bbl. They appear to be about equivilant to me, with the .25 having an edge on reliability and expansion.

Beleive it or not, ammo IS getting better for the pocket guns.:)
