I have been a user of the GrandSlam line for over 30 years. I have taken many deer and bull elk at ranges from 50yds to 500+yds with them in 270, 06, 300 winmag and 338 winmag and have never had a bullet failure, in fact these bullets almost always are "pass thru" shots on game. Elk drop like they have been hit with a hammer (as someone once said, "it just numbs em") with 250gr. Grandslams from my .338 and I have bullet recoveries with retained weight is in the 70-80% range with excellent expansion and bone crushing power and are generally 1 shot kills with no movement of the animal after the shot. Tracking game is not an option in the Oregon Coast Range as when a wounded animal moves it goes downhill into the worst rainforest type brush imaginable and can quickly end up 800yds down a hole, so anchoring game is a must.
My 2017 Roosevelt bull was taken at 470yds with a downhill quartering shot that entered just below the spine in front of the rear ham transiting full length of the body thru the gut, destroying heart and lungs, recovered under the hide on the off shoulder.(80% weight retention..see pic)s. That last point and the fact that they do not destroy meat like many other bullets I have used keeps me using them. Very low amounts of meat waste (see pic, total of lost meat from same bull, bout 4#).
when the butchering is over, even when breaking bones on the way thru. I do prefer to use them in heavy for cal. configurations not a screaming 3300fps pill and maybe that is why I have such a high opinion of them, but I can say, I have never seen a bullet/jacket separation.
I love em like my grandkids but as game here in the west continues to become wiser to hunting pressure and moving further away from access points requiring much longer average shooting ranges, and a s a reloader, I can't say I would be disappointed if this same bullet came in a bit a higher BC/SD form factor to tweak even more from this excellent bullet design.
I have tried the Nosler Accubond in 225gr/.338 and took a bull in 2016 at 325yds, broadside rib shot that did not pass thru....went back to the Grandslams as that same shot would have left a softball size exit on the way out.
