I saw a short blurb about Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo the other week. It said that there were variations in 9mm, .38spl, and .22WMR. Now, in my travels I have ran across the first two. I have never seen the .22wmr for sale anywhere.

Is the .22wmr available yet? IF so has anybody tested it yet. I've got a Heritage Rough Rider .22 combo that my wife doesn't mind shooting. I was hoping to find a box to try out. She avoids other guns, so I was hoping to load the RR with Speer for house duty. I work over a lot more now. So, I would feel much better with a .22WMR round designed for pistols.

If the Gold Dot is not available is their anything else in the same vein?

I tested the Speer Gold dot short barreled ammo this weekend

But it was the 9mm

In my test it gave a 1/2 inch deeper penetration than the standard 124 +9

I used milk jugs filled with wet newspaper with 4 layers of denim

This is the first I have heard of any .22 rim fire ammunition designed for self defense. Just as a guess, it is just being announced, and hasnt made it to the store shelves just yet. It looks to be a promising load for those that choose a pistol in .22 WMR. It would be interesting to see what the difference in velocity is between this and a standard 40 gr load is (in a shorter pistol barrel).

This may be the begining of a new age for 22s in self defense.

I think what they need to offer next is a short-barrel load for .22mag using a flat nosed or semi flat nosed solid. This would be just the thing for use in the NAA mini-revolvers, and if it feeds, in the KelTec PMR.

I have seen the .22WMR short-barrel ammo from Speer and Hornady advertised for about 2 months now, but have not actually seen it for sale anywhere, including the internet.
