Folks, I just bought this custom FMA big blade, 8" concave blade 1/8" thick 1095 tempered steel, fast, light & well balanced. I stropped the edge for about 15 minutes just to polish the edge and on a whim, I pulled a hair outta my head and brought the edge down against it -to my total surprise and amazement, the blade cut clean thru the hair. I then spent all weekend playing with this 'bad boy' bisecting hairs as well as diagonally shaving hairs to make little curls.

I own dozens and dozens of knives and they are all scary hair-popping sharp, but aside from my carbon shaving razors, I have never been able to 'split' a hair without some sort of tension applied to the hair. (I hold the hair between thumb and forefinger so it is parallel to the floor and then bring the blade perpendicular down on the unsupported hair.)

Before this weekend, I wouldn't have believed that this was possible. Does anyone else have a knife that can do this?

Found another knife in my collection that will split hairs. My BRKT Aurora which I had spent an hour polishing on the belt sander with leather belt & buffing compound. The convex blade edge has been mirror polished without giving up any thickness. This one will cut hairs if I draw the blade perpendicularly across them.
