This shortage on ammo made me think of the Seinfeld episode where they stopped making Elaine's favorite contraceptive sponge and she has to carefully consider whether her dates are truly "sponge-worthy." Anybody changing their shooting habits now that there is some uncertainty as to how soon you will be able to replenish your stock or if you will be able to replenish it as sane prices?

definitely shooting much less now.

that and a recent move has forced me to shoot indoors, which i really dont like.

I'm not shooting any ammo that I haven't reloaded and can't reload again.

I'm not shooting anything until it settles. Now I'm in purchase mode.

I bought a little bit of expensive ammo to cover my next range trip to finish sighting in my red dot, then that's it. No more shooting for me until prices approach normal.

I was actually considering buying a cheap bolt action single shot .22 for this reason.
I figured that I (stupidly) don't own any .22 firearms, and if I got a single shot bolt action, it would be cheap and I could use it to teach my kids when they are old enough.

That was, of course, until I saw what .22lr is going for lately!
I might buy an air rifle :D

I am breaking in a couple of new pistols right now, but I am coming in to enough ammo at normal prices to keep shooting regularly. There are a few stores that are getting pistol ammo in a few days a week, so I get there when they open and buy as much as I can.

I remember that Seinfeld episode......my sponge worthy ammo would be the nickle cased personal defense ammo and some Eley Tennex, good grief that stuff has gone up in price!

No Change to shooting habits except maybe to go a little more often than before. I'm well stocked for quite awhile so I'm not putting any dents in the supply of any note.

Great title!
I'm thinking I need to shoot what I have plenty of and what I have that might be pretty old. Mostly that means some old Wildcat .22.

I've been shooting my pellet gun heh. I got one for christmas a benjamin trail np .22 caliber. Ammo isn't much cheaper than .22lr was but its easier to find a place to shoot anyway and a whole lot easier to find pellets for it.

The last time I went shooting all I shot was my single six. I left all my big guns home.

My wife, sister and my Mom all want to go shooting. I would usually jump at the chance. But instead I've told them we can't go shooting til I can replace what we shoot. So, I'm in a holding pattern until this craziness dies down in a few months.

One thing, I think I will start studying and maybe will start hand-loading on a limited basis this year. Maybe a Lee loader, something small and really slow while I learn. Grow in the hobby, I guess, until I can shoot.

Re-loading supplies are in pretty short supply as well right now. I can't find small pistol primers to save my life.

Just went through $80 (probably more, its commercial brass-cased softpoints) of .308 through my fal. Totally worth it :D

I have a range outing penciled in with a shooting buddy for when the sun comes back out. Hoping March or early April. Luckily I have a bit of a surplus of 9mm, 22lr and can reload for 38spl and 357mag. I'm a bit light in 5.56, having a 1000 rounds mixed of 55 and 62 grain. I will spare some to sight in and function test my latest build, but it won't be the all inclusive practice session I was hoping for. I know it may be a year or two before 5.56 or components will become available again, but want to make sure my new rifle is ready to go.

Holding tight for now until I can replace what I shoot. The most I have done is burn off some PP .40 cal ammo for new. That was only 20 rounds. But, for the hours long range trip using typical range ammo, nope. Would be like throwing away coin IMHO. Going to wait until things settle down.

Haven't bought ammo in years.... I'm reloading my little heart out.... 18 deg. outside.... can't really get into shooting in this weather

My sponge worthy ammo would be any of my handloads with plated bullets. They are impossible to find right now as are most of my other favorite items. So right now I am just shooting a mag or two at the end of the session to get the worst of the lead out.

Other than trying to keep up with my wife's voracious appetite for 9mm :cuss: I'm pretty well set. I've actually traded off some items to fill holes in my own stash.

Heading out to the range in a bit to burn up some .45 snd try out some new blue Dot .45ACP loads.:D

For one of my handguns, . . . nothing is "sponge worthy" at this time. The only times that ARE "sponge worthy" would be outtings with .22lr, . . . and even then, not a lot of them downrange.

Clever analogy, BTW!
