Well I went to Sportsmans Warehouse today. I put a new truck gun on lay away. Been wanting a Socom for a long time. They had a Socom 16 in the rack. It now has my name on it. Guess I'll be retiring the Mini 14 soon. Ain't life great! Semper Fi

So, what is your question or are you just telling the world that SW is expensive and you put a Socom 16 in layaway? SW is competitive overall in my neck of the woods. Only have been to one store though.

Yeah, Sportsman's Warehouse is a dangerous place alright. I always hate to go there with too much money in my pocket. Seems I never leave with anywhere near as much $$$ as I went in with!;):D:D:D

They seem fine for me, but I don't have any competition for their market in the area that's dedicated to outdoor endeavours to the degree that they are. Their selection is worth the trip across town. But now, being I have nearly everything I want, err...need. It's usually for reloading stuff and they don't beat the prices of my local retailer, just have a lot more to offer.

I can find cheaper prices on guns, plus, I like to go somewhere that carries used firearms, better deals that way. Fortunately, I am quite spoiled because I have a local gun shop in the area that is over the top professional and helpful and never offers the unsound advice I read so much about.

I went to my local sportsmen's warehouse for the first time yesterday and thought they had pretty good prices. They were asking $480 for a NIB XD45. For comparison, the local Gander Mountain wants $600 for the same thing.

Come on guys, surely your reading comprehension skills aren't that bad. He's saying it's expensive in the sense that he was forced to buy the SOCOM because it was such a good deal, thus buying something he otherwise wouldn't have.

i noticed the local sportsmans has raised the price of all guns by about $100. i was taking prices on a couple guns while shopping over the past year and they deff. went up. i figured its just the normal, open with low prices to get customers, then raise prices.

Yes, Sportsman's warehouse is expensive, when one opened up down the road from me I spent $1200 there in the first week.
They are actually cheaper then a strictly gun oriented shop we have in town.
But still expensive. One of the reasons I went and got my FFL :D

It was a Socom 16. It was 14 and change. I had been looking for one for some time. As someone said previously when you go there you spend money. Prices are OK. You just keep buying new toys.

A local pawn shop here will order ANY gun you like (provided they can get it), and charge you:
What they paid
Shipping
$10.

So IF a rifle cost $800, plus $15 shipping, you pay $825 out the door with tax.
It's a smokin good deal...but...
Sportsmens is only a few dollars more usually.
And everyone else is way more.
I like Sportsmens. Well...sometimes.
I spend money there. :)

periodically they have sales with no sales tax.....I happened to walk into one and picked up thousands of primers and didn't want to stop there. But I did.

I went in a couple of weeks ago just to wander around. Walked out with a couple of boxes of 9mm ammo, and a new shoulder holster for my glock. The shoulder rig was 80 bucks, found it online for 120 or 130. A few minutes of wandering cost me about 100 bucks. I am terrified to go back. Might actually make it to the gun counter and then I'm in big trouble.

We have one full line outfitter here in Tallahassee who has been gouging people for years. New Sportsman's Warehouse is supposedly under construction and rumors also have a Bass ProShop underway. Be interesting to see if the local guy can swim.

I actually like that store. They have pretty good prices and a pretty good selection of gear. I swore I would never buy a gun that I couldn't buy at Jensens, and I still will buy it there if I can, but I have now purchased two guns at Sportsmans that Jensens didn't have in stock....
