I'm looking for a 1911 style .45, and I got some recommendations here for the SA. I was looking at the gunshow today at Colt brand 1911's and I saw that I think I like the looks of the 'commander' model better than the standard GI model, it seems to have a shorter barrel, and seems a nicer balance of look. Does Springfield make a 'commander' model?

I saw a Colt brand 'commander' for 649, is that a good price?

Colt's Commander model has a 4.25" barrel. Springfield does not make one with that barrel length.

The Springfield "Champion"-sized pistols have a 4" barrel. That's as close as they get.

The shorter guns are harder to shoot well. If you put looks above function you will pay for it with more felt recoil and a shorter sight radius which will make accurate shooting a little harder. The only reason I own anything less than a full size Government Model is for ease of carry.
