Recently, I purchased a new Springfield EMP .40, and I must have bought a lemon.
It started off with a few hiccups every now and then... but after putting about 500 rounds through it, I started getting A LOT of jams. So I called Springfield up, and had it sent over to them. Everyone was really friendly and understanding, and I had my pistol back in a little over a week. I'm not sure how many rounds they put through it, but when I got it back I put a little less than 100 rounds through it before it started jamming like crazy again. The main problem was it wasn't returning to battery, but I was also getting a few stove pipes on the final round of the magazine.
Anyway, I sent it back to Springfield again, and they actually let me talk to the technician who worked on my pistol in the first place. He sounded pretty concerned and seemed like he was determined to make it right. He told me to "attention" the gun to him, and it would be the first thing he would work on as soon as it arrived. He finally decided he wasn't "satisfied with the barrel/slide fit," and replaced it with a new barrel and slide. He put 100 rounds through it and it functioned fine. So far I've put about 300 rounds through it without any problems.
Overall it was pretty aggravating to have so many problems with a new pistol, but Springfield didn't give me any trouble. I'm really impressed with their customer service... which IMO, should be a given, but nowadays it seems that kind of service is hard to come by.
This is one of the reasons I chose to buy the EMP... and I'm glad I don't have to regret it.
