Bear with me guys I've never started a thread before.

I have a question and can't find the answer anywhere yet.

I have a Range Officer 5" 9mm.
Gun is AWESOME. Favorite range gun.

Now because it's so awesome, I'm thinking about replacing my EDC (S&W 642-1 pro series) with an EMP.

I'm not a fan of 9mm really, but I'm scared of the recoil the EMP may have if in .40.

But my real question is, will the 9mm mags for my Range officer fit/feed in the 9mm EMP?
Because I have gotten a lot of spare mags for the range officer and if the mags work for both guns, that's kind of a deal maker haha.

But if anyone has experience with the EMP 40 recoil I'd love to hear that to. I owned a S&W shield in .40 for 2 days. I put 4 mags through it and the slim grip made recoil unbearable.

No as your RO 9mm uses regular sized 1911 magazines but with spacers inside to set the smaller round forward.

The range officer in 9mm is not then?

Nope the RO is built on their regular .45ACP platform and sized for the 23mm case, the EMP is sized for the 19mm case. The RO's magazine won't even fit into the frame of the EMP.

They designed the EMP around the 9x19mm round to make it both smaller and more reliable

These are not the answers I hoped for. But it's good to know. Thank you for the answers y'all.

I owned an EMP in .40 and currently own one in 9mm. If you are scared of the recoil then you may want to reevaluate your shooting. There is nothing to be scared of, but the felt recoil will be slightly more IME than the 9mm, all things being equal. The EMP in any chambering is a great gun. I went with 9mm because it simplified things - I don't have another .40 S&W.

I have the 5" Range Officer in 9mm as well. Definitely one of my favorites and if it had a little more capacity I'd carry it more. I also have the 4" Range Officer Champion that shares the same holster and mags. There is also a compact available that is a little smaller. The 4" was my first 1911, and I really wanted the full size so the 5" was my second. My daughter will get the 4" when she is older, her birthday is 1-19-11 so I had to get her one.

I do not believe that they will. I think it has something to do with the EMP frame style, springfield sells mags for both as separate models. I will say this that I decided against the EMP because the price was just way too steep but I now own an RO compact and it is amazing. I heavily recommend it over the emp.
