When I loaded my Springfield Loaded 1911 with Cor-bon JHP, the slide had trouble going forward since the tip of the JHP kept getting caught on the ramp since it was too steep. What can I do? To load it I had to manually insert the 8th round in the barrel and release the slide forward, and then insert the magazine to get it loaded. I oiled the ramp a little bit and it sorta worked better, but could it be the factory magazines?

Be aware that some 1911s don't like certain brands of ammo.

Try a different brand of magazine, as suggested above. If that doesn't work, and every other round works for ya, then you'll just have to skip the corbon. It's not worth Smithing it for just that 1 issue, unless all rounds are doing it.

Typical with many 1911's including Springfields. The feed ramp needs to be mirror polished. Any good smith can do it and most don't charge an outrageous amount to do it. Depending on his/her workload it may take a while to get it done though.

If you are at all mechanically inclined, with care, a dremel tool a cylindrical polishing felt tool and some fine jeweler's rouge, you can do it yourself. Slow and careful is the trick.

I've had a number of 1911's and they all needed it. Worst was an old AMT Hardballer and the one that needed the least work was a Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded that I got last year.

So I decided for myself that it was the Cor-bon JHP ammo that I bought. I took it back to the gun store (On-Target in Kalamazoo) and since my 1911 was still under warranty, they decided to see if it was the ammo or the ramp and fed a few rounds through it. If it was the ramp they said they would fix it no charge. It ate up the ball ammo just fine so I did an even trade for some Glaser Pow'R Ball ammo. The round slid smoother in the barrel than I could ever wish it would.

Hey Carl,

NEVER use a defensive load that you haven't tried shooting through your SD firearm. If it didn't want to feed by stripping off-of the mag, you can't depend on it for reliability.

I'd put a few hundred rounds through any gun & ammo combination before I felt it was reliable enough to be used for SD.

I gather that only the first round has this problem? The other rounds feed fine? No stoppages?

The odds are 20 to 1 this is a magazine problem. Try magazines from another maker -- Chip McCormic is what I use, and they work flawlessly.
