Springfield Model 340 Same as Savage 340

My sons father in law has a bolt action rifle. It is a Springfield 340 it looks like a Savage 340. I am wondering if two are one in the same?

Are you sure it isn't a Springfield 840? I think those are the same as the Savage 340/Stevens 325. There are so many of them that were basically the same that there could have been a Springfield marked as 340 instead of 840.
