Aleko, I think you nailed it...

For me the XD is a fine take anywhere gun, too.

I'd like to suggest you look at The SafePacker Holster, available at The Wilderness.

Tell 'em what you are trying to pack and they'll steer you to the right size. I've got one for my XD and it is perfect for tossing into the glove box, under the seat, etc. Heck, wear it on your belt and it looks like you are packing a sandwich or a billfold. Durable and well made. Very nice complement for your go-anywhere gun!

Price had nothing to do with the purchase of my XD, and price is relative to your area. I've heard of some outrageous prices being paid for these XDs, simply because they aren't available. I firmly believe that the XD should be priced a little more expensive than the Glock (due to its added features). Granted, when you buy a Glock, you are paying for its reputation (same with Springfield). Now that Glock has shown that it is not "perfect", maybe the price of Glock pistols should come down a little; my last pistol purchase was a Glock BTW.

I like the XD because it is extremely accurate for a polymer framed, 4" gun, it has features I wish my Glocks had (metal mags, ambidextrous mag release, grip safety, fully supported chamber), and the grip angle is very similar to my 1911s. Short of the finish, the XD just feels more solid than any Glock I own. I like Glock for totally, but equally important, reasons.

I wouldn't talk to much smack about the Croatians. They do have some recent war experience.

Not talking smack about them but what does war have to do with their manufacturing . I stand by that they are not on par with the other top european company's.Glocks due have problems so does colt springfield and the like .Do you remember hearing about sa slides breaking off at the front sight during firing.Other pistols have kaboomed also .If Iremember correctly it happened alot with the 38 super in 1911 style guns.Prices are relevant to where you live . I didn't come to argue which I have said in both of my posts or to rag on anyone who chose to buy the gun. The question of the topic was do you like the XD NO was my answer . Price is a factor for alot of gun buyers especially new ones .A cheaper price will get people to buy except it or not. The gun is made buy the same company as before . Why did you not buy the HS2000 instead of the SA? Name recognition sells products. If someone asks a question I will answer as honestly as I can wether I am new or not or if I get flamed . It is a matter of opinion sir whether or not hte gun is good .Knowone paided atention a few years back about the gun so it is to new to know of any problems yet. Buy what you will .

Sorry j45m16. I'm not attacking you. I hope you didn't take offense to my comments. I also didn't mean to imply that the Croatian manufacturing facilities were the best manufacturers in the world. I am simply stating that they are not oblivious to quality firearm manufacturing techniques, as they do have some knowledge of what makes firearms combat effective. Croatia and Austria are only seperated by about ~50 miles. I don't think it takes a high tech manufacturing facility to produce quality products, anyway. It's all about design, repeatable procedures/processes, quality material and QA. Even beloved Colt's manufacturing facilities are less than state of the art, but they are, once again, putting out some outstanding products. The XD absolutely became popular once Springfield became associated with it. They heavily advertised the pistol and put an awesome warranty on it. I think you have to overlook where a product is manufactured oftentimes. The quality of the product is more important than where it came from, and the quality is determined by the consumer. If it's crap, it isn't marketable in the competitive gun market. We do live in a global economy where Dodge and Chevy trucks are manufactured outside the US and Toyota is manufactured inside the US. I've owned a number of firearms, and the XD ranks pretty high on my list.

I agree with you sorry also if it seemed i was attacking .Iagree also that quality products can come from anywere.Iwas just saying the XD is new to the market from SA And there are going to be eventual problems with it also just like any manufacturer.Only time will tell how it stands up overthe yeares as a pistol. I enjoyed the debate valid points came from all over.I hope ihave not out worn my welcome on this fine board.

It ain't the prettiest gurl at the dance, but I went to the store to give it a try anyway. It points better than a Glock to me, but the trigger feels like mush to me. It may be a great pistol, but it ain't my cup of tea. I'll pass on it.

I have never shot them cause the first time I saw one in a gun store I asked to check it out. I just thought that it felt horrible in my hand just weird and creepy. I was thinking of getting one till then, I changed my mind and just got myself another Glock and never looked back.

Can't stand them personally. The grip safety is my biggest gripe about it, I don't particually like anything except a 1911 to have a grip safety. The grip didn't really agree too much with my hand. Personally I'll just stick with Glocks when it comes to polymer, the XD just doesn't tickle my fancy.

I think the looks of the pistol turned me off more than anything else. I am a Glock fan so looks aren't "that" important to me; but everyone has their limits. I guess that's why I never bothered to ask the man behind the counter to pull out one for me. Besides I'm used to Glocks and would rather get that CZ I've been promising myself.

From everything I've heard its suppose to be a lot of gun even at current prices though. And if I was in the market for a defense pistol in that price range I'd probably give the XD a more serious look.
