I own both a G21 and an XD-45, so I can say with some experience that you made the right decision going with the XD.
And price? The XD45 I saw was $509.95. Please. That's about the biggest ripoff in the industry. Like I said, if you salivate over your XD then great! And if it works for you? Fine, but it ain't no Glock by a longshot.
the XD took the Glock design and threw a bunch of extra crap on it that can fail.
To be me they are uglier than Glock's
Lonestar,
Same old stuff from a Glock worshiper.
So what if your Glock breaks in a self defense situation??? All the spare parts in your tackle box ain't gonna help you then...and why would anyone need spare parts for Glock since they "never break". So who's buying all these spare parts and why?
As for not getting parts from SA, lot's of owners have a problem with that but I don't. If I was going to warranty the gun I wouldn't want some self styled gunsmith with no certification performing surgery on it. Then after they screw it up for sure, they expect SA to fix the problem for free (for which they cover shipping by the way)!
Anyway, as the XD continues to gain in popularity, I expect the market will respond with after market parts.
Now, if you think Glock is the greatest thing since donut holes, by all means use and enjoy, but don't try to pass off the XD as a non-competitor to the Glock 'cause we all know the XD45 has scared the pants off Mr. Glock, so much so he's introduced a slim grip 45ACP!
Be Well!

The XD is a fine gun, but Springfield parts policy STINKS, plain and simple.
