I heard from a source online that the Springfield XDs are being bought up by the armed forces to eventually replace the Glocks.

There is some sort of shortage and Springfiled can't make them fast enough, plus they closed down their wharehouse for inventory lately, sounds fishy.

I don't know if the is reliable or not, but I am going to buy the Springfield XD 9mm soon because I like what it has to offer, especially for only $400.

This is an intersting article comparing the XD9 vs. the Glock 17 from sportshooter.com

I report u decide!! Always wanted to say that.

Here in the Navy they are still using the beretta. Haven't heard anything about Glocks or XD's. I like my XD, but I'm not sure they are proven well enough for a large DOD contract.

Gameface

maybe it was the Beretta, I am not sure, but will look for source.

The point of the thread is to get people to read the article and discuss, not trying to pass false information or piss on the Glock or Beretta

Of course, the Austrian army uses Glocks. Norway too I think. The big Glock market is the U.S. law enforcement market.

Personally I think the Glock 17 is the ideal 9mm service weapon. The XD would not be able to keep up, and the Beretta 92? A big mistake.

If I were over there in the sand of the middle east I would find some way to get a Glock 9mm.

I agree with bad dad, the glock is pretty much the ak47 of the pistol world, throw em in the sand, leave em in the ocean for a month, whatever, they just keep on rockin 50cal.gif :D ......tom

on top of all the debunking

Springfield DOES NOT! manufacture the XD. it is made in Croatia. before springfield took over importation it was called HS 2000 availible mostly in 9mm though some did show up in 40S&W though rare. Springfield put a X in the name and raise the price $100.

I heard that a lot of fed agencies are using the XD.

Don't know if it's true or which alphabets, but that's what the rumor was.

The fed agencies are using specific issue handguns. I believe that most agencies are now carrying SigSauer handguns, with some Glocks. I do not think any .gov LE agency has been issued the XD.

The US military will never use a Glock with the current specification for any handgun.

US military requires all handguns to have a HAMMER actuated ignition system. The Glock uses a STRIKER to ignite the primer. Strikers dont hit the primer as hard, and are therefor considered unreliable by the US military.

BTW I have a Glock 26 and in 2,000 plus rounds have never had any kind of failure, and it seems to me that they hit the primer very hard.

Oh man, where to begin...

When the DOD adopts a pistol it is a massive undertaking. The M9 trials took years. There was tons of testing, followed by lawsuits, and then more testing. Do a search here for the information.

We use Berettas. Not Glocks.

No fed agencies that I'm aware of use the XD as an issue gun, though some individuals may have approval to carry personal guns. To my knowledge Springfield as of yet has not created any sort of factory based armorer certification/training, which keeps it from being adopted by some of the large PDs. (at least this is what I was led to believe when SLCSD was trimming down their approved gun list last year).

Master Blaster, the hammer spec was for the M9 program. That could theoretically change should a new trial be announced.

And Springfield is actually probablly closed down for inventory. I'm aware of no shortages. I ordered 8 XDs a month ago and received them quickly.

Not in this country :scrutiny: Maybe your PC needs to be wrapped with Tin Foil :neener:

Master Blaster: they do not hit that hard when compared to hammer. In the military you just never know when you might get a box of hard primer rounds and you don't have the option to pick and choose there and then.

I have had ftfs with a G19 with regular power spring that a Beretta fired the same round with a reduced power main spring. I see some people go down to the reduced power spring for carry on Glocks and I warn them against it all the time because the margin of error is just too small.
