Been stamping out my own wads f or the.44, what do you stamp on to avoid making so much racket? , and possibly make it easier to stamp them out.

i'm using a 7/16 punch and have cut out over 200 wads and have them lubed and ready to go but haven't tried them yet, so does anyone else use this size of punch and hows it workin for you??

I use a 2 in thick end grain oak cutting board that I found at a Goodwill store. Also use a 2 lb dead blow hammer, much less noise than metal and will not mushroom the end of the punch. The same Goodwill has felt cowboy hats for a few dollars each, make great wads. 7/16 punch from a nine peace Harbor Freight set has cut hundreds of wads and still going strong.

Buflow

I don't stamp. I chuck the wad cutter in a cordless drill. I have a chunk of electricians rubber matting,
I cut into that. A small jewelers file every 4 or 5 thousand wads to dress the cutting edge.

yep and after hammering out wads with my carpul tunnel wrists after a hundred or so my wrists are shot! so I would like an easier way to do this?

You can pick up drill press hollow punches at harbor freight, I got them and have used them in a hand drill, that works ok but not great. Going to try them in a drill press next. The set is right around $9

I use a paper cutter, the table top kind, and cut square wads. By the time they are soaked in lube, and stuffed in the cylinder, their original shape matters not.

BTW, I'm using regular old Fabric Mart 100% soft wool felt.

That set cuts great in a drill press, the one down side is stopping the press to remove the wads every six or so. The depth of the cutter just doesn't allow many wads until its either flinging them across the room or their jammed so tight they are hard to remove. I use a block of pine to back up the felt.

I went ahead and spent the $25 for the actual cutter. Has a grooved opening in the top / side, that let's the wads fall out.
I also have a hollow hammer style gasket punch for when I need a few wads of different sizes.

I just look at it as part of the job , no big deal . It doesn't make near as much racket as shooting them , but I will give you , not as much fun .
