I am wanting to standardize on Glock 9mm for my carry and home defense purposes, mainly for the mag compatibility. I have the 19X for home and sometimes carry, but want something just a bit smaller for EDC. I believe my choices are the Glock 26 and the Glock 19. I can get the MOS version for the 19. I can also get the slide milled for a red dot for the 26, at extra expense.

What opinions do you guys have on my idea? Which gun is more shootable? Accurate? Easier to EDC? Better all around gun?

Thanks,
Joe

Ill second the 26. Its really the most versatile Glock (at least in the 9mm end of the family) as it can be so much more than just a smaller gun, and with just a mag change.

I have 17's, 19's, and 26's, and still havent figured out why the 19 is so popular. There really isnt much of a difference size wise between it and the 17, and the difference between it and the 26 is enough to be substantial. The 26 can go where the 19 cant, but if you can carry a 19, you can just as easily carry a 17.

I shoot the 19's OK, but find their grips to be cramped and somewhat uncomfortable. I have no troubles shooting the 26 well, and even with just a "two finger" grip, with my pinkie wrapped under the mag, find it to be very comfortable and controllable to shoot with. I dont use the mag extensions, as it just makes the gun needlessly larger and sort of defeats the whole purpose.

Food for thought. I ended up with a 2nd G19 and didn't want 2 functionally identical guns. They would have been different colors, but that is all. So, I got our my Dremel tool and a soldering iron to create this. I ground off the finger grooves and used the soldering tool to stiple the front strap as well as cutting the grip down.

It's butt ugly and the workmanship is hardly professional quality. But it has become one of my favorites. I have the barrel length of a G19 with the Grip of a G26. It will take any Glock 9mm magazine. Pictured above are 10, 12, 15, 17,19, and 33 round magazines. I've come to really like the 12 round mags now being made by Glock and MagPul. They are a good fit on the G26 grip. Just long enough to get a better grip than the 10 round mags, but not too big to conceal.

I figured used G19's are everywhere and at bargain prices so even if I ruined the gun, it wouldn't be a terrible financial loss.

If you're not willing to do major surgery on a gun then I'd recommend a G26. You get the same magazine versatility, but with a bit shorter barrel. Especially since you already have a 19X.

I have found in my experience the G19 is not any harder to conceal than a G26, which led to me abandoning the G26.

The G19 is my closest thing for a do all pistol, with the exception of hunting/woods in where I step-up to 10mm. I believe the G19 is a workhorse of a gun that can easily be set up in any configuration to your hearts desire. I will always have at least 1 Glock 19 in my stable. I'm currently sitting a 3. My primary G19 is set up with TLR7, Holosun 509t.

If I was set on another Glock, I would opt for the MOS and top it with the Holosun SCS which is a direct mount to MOS with no plate, batteries, or raised sights needed. Even the serrations milled into the optic match the slide serrations.

With the introduction of Glocks slimmer lines, and all the competition's micro 9s, I do believe the G26 will eventually be discounted.

With all that said, the Sig P365 line has been getting more carry time with me. I swapped the slides between my XL and Macro. My current carry set up is a XL frame with Macro upper, Holosun, and TLR7 Sub. Carry 17 round mags as reload.

My two carry guns are a Glock 26 & a Glock 19. They both operate with a Glock 19 magazine. I bought 5 12 round 26 magazines and everything else is a 19 magazine.

It makes my life a lot simpler.

I'm limited to 15 rounds by state law. I chose the 19 over the 17 specifically for that reason.

Having said that, I'm completely happy with my 19. It fits my hand perfectly

They make 15 round 17 mags, for those of you who live in those sorts of places.

I'm aware of that.

I suppose I could have been more clear. The 17 isn't much bigger than a 19 but it is bigger. I don't see the point of carrying a full size gun with a lower capacity magazine when I can simply carry a compact gun that's a good fit for me with the same capacity.

FWIW, I sold my G26 and have my G19 on my CCW permit. The difference in bulk wasn't that significant, and the G19 has better ergo in my hands.

I use a Leupold Deltapoint Micro, which doesn't require an RMR cut. If the battery dies or the dot otherwise fails, the sight serves as an aperture rear for the tritium front (also have a light/laser combo, in case either of those options proves useful.)

I owned a G26. I called it “The Hockey Puck”. I sold it. Didn’t care for it and firing it could be painful. I have arthritis and wrist damage so I ended up with Glock 19 mags and X-Grip sleeves then the gun was comfortable to shoot.
I figured if I needed a 19 sized grip why have the 26.

Just my 2¢

Just about the only Glock 9mm I don’t own is a 26. We had several for issue in the safe at the office, but the gun just doesn’t fit my hands well. ( I haven’t bought a gun that I know I won’t like.)

The brood:

The 43x was one that just clicked the boxes when it came to a smaller Glock to carry. The 48/43x magazine is not compatible with the 19/17/26 series, but they are plentiful, legal in 10-round max states and not expensive.

Just a suggestion, YMMV. :) Let us know what you decide to do.

Stay safe.

If really really a G17 guy, I also strong second the 19 over the 26 as small gun. G19 is just a lovely size in every way.

And also have to second that there's so much advantage to the 48 that if you need a small gun (and like glock exclusively!) it is very hard to argue you must stick to the G19 mag compatablity.

You can get a G43 and G43X as well. PSA released their 15 round magazine for the G43X this weekend. I have two coming in the mail. Hopefully they work better than the shield arms mags.

The G26 is a fat pig for sure. But you know what? It’s a real deal combat pistol. With 15/17/19/24/33 round mags easily available. I went to an outdoor mall today, very similar to the Texas outdoor mall that was shot up last week by an idiot. I usually carry a Ruger LCP most days. Today I grabbed the G26 with a spare 15 round magazine. It’s combat Tupperware and gives me more ability than a P365 or a Ruger LCP. Yea it’s a fat pig, but it’s shootable and accurate and has faster follow up shots than just about any other compact pistol. And I trust it explicitly and have never seen it fail.

To all who are suggesting the 43X with Shield magazines, I have the 48 with the Shield mags now. However, I really want to have the mag compatibility with the Glock double stack mags. I already have a 6 pack of double stack mags hidden in each of my vehicles. I just need the gun to be able to use them. The mag packs are 17 round mags so I can utilize my 19X and also either a 19 or a 26. I am leaning towards a 19.

My choice would be the 19 since you want to use your double stack magazines .

The 26 is nice for car trips and such. Everyone's hands are different, but it fits my XXL hands well and shoots like a bigger pistol.

Im kind of amazed that people think a 19 can be carried in places on your body that a 26 can. The difference in size there, is a "difference", where the difference between a 17 and 19 really isnt.

Neven understood the bad ergo comments about the 26's either, especially when the 42's and 43's are "OK".

@Ks5shooter post reminded me that I had forgotten to mention that I intended to buy a Gen 5 G19, but after handling and shooting a 43X I decided to get one. I ended up with a G48 MOS. Same outline as the G19 but slimmer.

Years ago I had a Gen 3 G19. I didn’t like it because of the finger grooves. They didn’t match my fingers. I bought a Polymer 80 Compact (G19 size) and like it very much and decided to buy a G19. After renting a G19 I discovered I really don’t like the bump on the backstrap. The Standard sized Glock G17 frame fits my hand perfectly. The 19 does not, but the G48 is just fine. Go figure. Its got to be the thickness plus the hump I don’t like.
I have a G44 the same size as a 19. I don’t like its grip much either.

I agree regarding the 19 vs the 26 size for carry.

Regarding the ergonomics of the 42/43 vs the 19; its got to be the thickness.
