I'll play.
1. Springfield WWII GI 1911A1
1. Ithaca 12 ga pump (works real good for southpaws - so does the 1911)
1. Rem 700 VS LH in .308
1. A .22 rifle
That's for starters.... sundog

Fortunately for me the ex-wife neither a) knew how many guns I owned, b) had any interest in either guns or shooting, or c) had any inkling that they could be considered joint property. Thus my collection emerged unscathed, although to be on the safe side I had my attorney word our separation agreement to ensure this.

Burglary and fire remain concerns, although I have a certain level of protection against each. My front door is completely exposed and brightly lit by the street lamp, so anyone attempting to break in would have to do so in full view. Also, I have certain unnamed security precautions in place to make this even more difficult than it might at first appear.

Fire is always a concern for me, owing to the fact that I live in a townhouse rather than a detached home. I'm careful with matches, but who knows how cautious my neighbors are - you know? However we have a sprinkler system in our development and a fire station is close by, so I feel reasonably confident that any conflagration could be contained long enough for the cavalry to arrive. In any case, if I'm at home during that time you can bet your bottom dollar my guns will be out prepped for relocation within minutes of hearing the alarm.

I also carry enough personal property insurance to replace them - just in case. ;)

Although a few are irreplaceable due to the fact that they're not made anymore. :(

My first replacements in such a situation would include:

1) Winchester Model 94 Trapper .357 Magnum
2) Glock 19 (preferrably second generation)
3) Smith&Wesson Model 642 (preferrably pre-spider hole)
4) Ruger Police Service-Six .357 Magnum (providing I could find one)
5) Ruger Vaquero .357 Magnum
6) Colt Police Positive MkV (again, assuming I could even find one)

  1. Glock 26
  2. Rem. 870
  3. Marlin 60
  4. Browning Buckmark
  5. .308 bolt
  6. AR-15

I would then procede to buy a dulicate of each...

Been there

Been there, done that! 3 yrs. ago I lost everything I own to a fire. I was very much under-insured.
Lost home, shop,,guns, reloading equip.,casting equip.,many tools and a Jeep to a fire. Had hundreds of pounds of powder and a large number of primers.
I am 66 yrs. old and have been fooling with guns and reloading since I was 16 yrs. old. Also had some of my Grandfathers and Fathers guns as well.
I went into a depression and didn't care for anything, but I'm back now and have gotten a few guns and a loading press now.
Never again will I get as deep into anything as I was before the fire.
First purchase I made was a Glock 22(nothing much left of Glocks after a fire) and then A Colt Combat Commander.
Second purchase I made was a Bushmaster AR and then a Ruger M77/22.
Sorry for crying, but you did ask!

Agree with El Tejon.

Having BTDT, I bought a Model 10 snubby for $80. Well worn finish , internals pristine - a Police trade in. [number of years ago] Found a holster in the used bin for $4 or 5 bucks. A used speedloader and box of 158gr LSWC and I was armed again.

I needed something right then, for CCW. I was more concerned about entering and leaving where I was staying, being out and about. I next bought( about a week later) a 12 ga Single shot shotgun for $20, to have inside where I was staying.

Living out of town where I had some guns, but my car was totaled too. I just needed to breathe in and out, and put one foot in front of another for awhile. I was given hand me down clothes to wear, offered free meals often.

You can start over with nothing but the clothes on your back, and what the hospital gives you. I had a drinking cup, a towel, washrag and some scrubs...A nurse laundered my street clothes.

Let's see,

1) S&W model 66 4" .357magnum
2) Mossberg 835 12guage combo 24" slug barrel 28" bird barrel with chokes
3) Ruger 77 Mk II in .30-06
4) Ruger Govt 22lr
5) Search for S&W 17-3 or earlier
6) 1911A1 by Spingfield Armory or S&W

The time span to replace that would take a while because I'd probably have to replace other belongings as well. A new Dillon 550 would have to find its way in that list if that got wrecked too.

Then start looking to replace my antiques and "luxuries"

-Jim

PS going to change the batteries in my smoke detectors!!!!!!

Any pistol ASAP. Upgrade that to a "decent" pistol, asap. Good carbine. Good Shotty (protection style), good long gun. After that it's just replacing your collection, IMO.

If this indeed did happen to you, very sorry to hear.
