About the only change I would make are to have found another way to hang onto my Dad’s Savage 99F .308 that my Dad gave me as a birthday gift when I turned 18. He bought it new in the late 1950’s, as I remember the guy who bought it remarked about the H date code, the brass round counter and blued trigger (not gold colored).
I was in college, between jobs and needed money to pay the rent, eat and get the U-joint fixed on my car. Selling this gun, and my beautiful but hard-kicking Medallion model Browning A-Bolt .338 WM, bought me enough time to get me back on my feet.
It was sold for a good reason, but it still hurts to have sent it off to this day.
