Fortunately for me the ex-wife neither a) knew how many guns I owned, b) had any interest in either guns or shooting, or c) had any inkling that they could be considered joint property. Thus my collection emerged unscathed, although to be on the safe side I had my attorney word our separation agreement to ensure this.
Burglary and fire remain concerns, although I have a certain level of protection against each. My front door is completely exposed and brightly lit by the street lamp, so anyone attempting to break in would have to do so in full view. Also, I have certain unnamed security precautions in place to make this even more difficult than it might at first appear.
Fire is always a concern for me, owing to the fact that I live in a townhouse rather than a detached home. I'm careful with matches, but who knows how cautious my neighbors are - you know? However we have a sprinkler system in our development and a fire station is close by, so I feel reasonably confident that any conflagration could be contained long enough for the cavalry to arrive. In any case, if I'm at home during that time you can bet your bottom dollar my guns will be out prepped for relocation within minutes of hearing the alarm.
I also carry enough personal property insurance to replace them - just in case.
Although a few are irreplaceable due to the fact that they're not made anymore.
My first replacements in such a situation would include:
1) Winchester Model 94 Trapper .357 Magnum
2) Glock 19 (preferrably second generation)
3) Smith&Wesson Model 642 (preferrably pre-spider hole)
4) Ruger Police Service-Six .357 Magnum (providing I could find one)
5) Ruger Vaquero .357 Magnum
6) Colt Police Positive MkV (again, assuming I could even find one)
