Durham Boy Charged With Robbery, Assault

DURHAM, N.C. -- A 10-year-old Durham boy was charged with robbery and assault.

Police said the boy, whose name was not released, tried to rob a man mowing the lawn at an apartment complex on Monday.

When the worker told the boy he did not have any money, police say the boy tried to rob another landscape worker.

The boy reportedly shot the worker in the chest with a BB gun. He was not seriously hurt.

Geez, it's heartbreaking to hear about a kid that young whose head is already so screwed up as to do such a thing. Frankly, I feel a kid who does this would have probably been better served and instructed if the landscape worker had gingerly and in a measured way beaten the tar out of him rather than bring the police in. I can understand the legal reasons why he wouldn't, but it's too bad.
