Check the CDC
FBI Uniform Crime Report
and the BATFe Youth Gun Interdiction Initiative study, specifically look at the number of firearms the BATFe is asked to trace. It doesn't take long to figure out that far more traces are run on .22's, .380's, and 12 Gauges than on any sort of EBR.

This is a good place to look and they source all of their data, so you can use the original citation instead of referring them to Guncite if you are concerned about impartiality.

CDC is good; FBI UCR is good.
But you're stepping into a world of arguments with the questions you want to address.
John Lott has the research on CCW/crime "More Guns, Less Crime", two editions. Gary Kleck has the Defensive Gun Use (DGU) - Point Blank: Guns and Violence in America. Both have other popular works available.
Now, it happens I don't find the arguments against these publications persuasive, but you would do yourself a favor by doing some Googling around to see the criticisms, and understand them, and be prepared to respond. A number of the critics are not, strictly speaking, anti-gun, but have methodology and internal consistency questions worthy of consideration.

I agree (or at least, I can't think of any crime statistics that would out weigh the "number of unarmed people killed/oppressed by their/someone else's government" statistics.
Its just that I was having a roughly related subject, and mentioned that "apparently, in the parts of America that have introduced the most liberal laws on carrying conceals guns, they have seen the largest drop in violent crime", and wanted to make sure I had a good backing for what I said.

This is a scholarly piece. It includes 13 different surveys on defensive gun use estimates (in the United States) ranging from sources that are from left-wing to right. As summarized by guncite, they range from 700,000 to 3 million.
