Stepping up to progressive

Z7, I don't know where you live but here in Western CO there's a Murdoch's (farm and ranch chain store) that has been gearing up to start selling guns and has greatly expanded all things firearms related, including reloading supplies. Long story short, stopped in today and the Hornady LNL AP was on the shelf for only $339.00. Lesson, shop around, even locally you may find prices cheaper and not need to pay shipping (just sales taxes).

i am in SE Virginia, not aware of anyone around here that has a real good selection of reloading equipment, we have a bass pro but unless you catch them with a significant sale then i find midwayusa or many of the other fine online retailers are cheaper

I too am upgrading to a progressive this xmas after swearing I'd never need anything more than my single stage hornady. I went with the Hornady, got it on Cyber Monday at Amazon for $379 with free two day shipping as I am a prime member. I get most of my other stuff from a Midway, but Midway can't pack their boxes for crap so in get stuff beat all to hell in shipping so I am slowly looking for other sources.
This is technically a xmas gift so I can't use the press until Xmas day, but I will be setting it up and running some test rounds through so that on Xmas day I know it works and can try it out.
I'm going to do the bushing thing that gavintube did on YouTube, I intend to get the measurements this weekend then go find a machine shop to make the bushing. I really do like my single stage and will keep using it for working up loads, small batches, etc.

Funny thing is I'm going the other way.

Going from an LNL AP to a Single Stage...mostly to deprime and load small batches of rifle and seldom shot handgun rounds. Plus we have a local guy who will process .223/5.56mm brass...resize, swage primer pockets, trim...for a very reasonable price. (he's trying to get back the money he spent on his Dillon 1050 setup)...but you need to deprime it first.

You'll love the way the LNL AP disposes of spent primers. The only SS presses that handle them as well are the Forster Co-Ax and the Lee Classic Cast SS. I'm going with the Lee CC and installing the Hornady Bushing system also.

- Really...washers?

I'll have to give it a try...maybe under the conversion bushing

Yeah I saw it somewhere, probably on here, like the precision shim set you get for the shell plate drive hub, but bigger for the quick changer bush. I have a lathe so I made one out of aluminum tube but it took me longer than I would've needed with a 7$ washer set probably. Of course if your classic cast is taller deck than your AP you'll need to get 5 shims, one for each station. It was lucky that the Hornady SS is about 1/8" lower than the AP. YMMV

Maybe this would work for some presses. There might be a source for some skinny shims that can fit into a recess on the press. Then again, maybe that's over thinking it. With this set you can dial into .oo1" real easy.

EDIT: this set will not fit, but maybe a similar set will. (As the kind sir below has pointed out) The key words are "arbor shims" good, luck!

PS, I can imagine at simply glueing the bushing at a certain thread depth could also be done, or drilling a set screw point on the press as well, if one is willing to drill their press. So, lots of options. It's a handy feature. I don't use it all too much, but sometimes. It's especially nice for calibers I'm working up on the single, and then when I'm ready I can just throw the dies into the AP and I'm good to go. It's worth the effort, and makes a lot more sense than buying more dies!

The Redding Big Boss II collects spent primers through a hollow ram similar to the L-N-L.
