I inherited this gun from my FIL when he died... Its set up for 2 3/4 and 3" shells... But it doesnt have the choke stamped on the barrel anywhere.. Its been sooooo long since i messed with a shotgun i forgot what coin will not fit through if its a full choke... I thought of using this gun turkey hunting this spring... Can anyone help me out figuring out the choke or do i need to hit up a gun smith...

Back in the days of my youth, all the old geezers used a dime to check the choke of a 12 gauge. If it didn't go into the muzzle end, all was well. It was a full choke to them. Pretnear everyone, except bird hunters, liked full choked guns. Long range wonders. Long Toms. Goose guns.

All that the dime proves is that you have a dime and a gun. I have had many years experience with these old pot metal wonders. They usually range from modified to a tight full. I can still visualize in my mind the way the guys would look at your new gun and pull out a dime to make sure it had the "right choke".

Pattern the gun and you will have a better idea of how it holds the shot together downrange at turkey ranges. I have a choke gauge that I use that almost always lies to me about the actual pattern.

Happy hunting!
