It seems as though Steyr may be getting it's act together with a short list of companies now handling and/or supporting their pistols, like Davidson's and Zander's sporting goods (www.gzanders.com). Also, Diamond Trail Shooter's Supply (www.usasteyr.com) is now servicing and carrying parts for the M/S series pistols.

I have yet to hear any news on a new location for their factory, though it has been said several proposed sites were being looked at last I heard.

My main reason for not considering it up until this point, is the uncertainty surrounding the company, and the lack of parts and support here in the U.S....... However, these issues seem to be slowly improving.

I have handled one, and loved the grip and overall feel of the pistol. I was allowed to remove the slide, and I was impressed. The slide rails and other internals looked well built and sturdy.

I am considering purchasing an M40, and would like some feedback from those that have owned or shot an M-Series Steyr, reliability, recoil control, trigger ect.

Steyr is taking steps to secure their place in the US gun market, and I believe that once they get a steady flow of guns into the country you'll see the prices rise up to about Glock level.

My M40 has been perfectly reliable, and I shoot it better then a G23 (which is Glock that is closest to the same class as the M40).

I find the trigger to be smoother, crisper and less mushy then a Glock. I have also found that the higher bore axis and the grip angle make for better recoil control (I've had several people shoot my gun and afterward be surprised to find out it's a .40 ... most think its a 9mm).

Right now Steyrs are inexpensive ... get one.
:D

Thanks Zundfolge!

Have you heard anything regarding a new location for their manufacturing plant? I hope they are able to secure their place in the U.S. market, as I would like to see the M/S series atleast be given the chance to succeed stateside. These pistols seem very well built, and I like the features they offer.

wow...$42 for a spare magazine?? cdnn has them for $25. and you can always check with the canadian steyr importer, he has accessories that were quite a bit cheaper than steyrusa's website shows.

Try to find an M40 or M9 in a gun store or at a gun show that you can hold and dry fire. The triangle/trapezoid sights are not for everybody. I replaced mine with PT Night Sights. My M9 has been 100% reliable. The magazine is a little loose in the gun, that bugs me, but it hasn't affected reliability. The trigger pull is one of the best features of the gun, it has less creep than the Glocks I've tried. At first I liked the grip but now I like the CZ, Taurus, and SIG grips better, because they are larger. Still, a fun gun for a damn good price, thanks to www.cdnninvestments.com.

I plan to get the M40 from CDNN as soon as they get my local dealer's FFL via snailmail. :D

And at the time I order the gun through CDNN, I can also order mags for about $20 each.

Now I'm trying to decide what type of holster to get, which is proving to be about as difficult as chosing a gun! I finally found leather holsters made specifically for the M40/M9 at HighNoon Holsers, and I found (from someone on glocktalk) that Comp-tac can make a kydex holster for $20 above usual price (for having to "custom" build from one of their guns). I haven't decided if I'm going to carry concealed, but I am going to go to IDPA events. I'd like to get a holster that I can use for both; in fact, that's what IDPA is about...using the same equipment you would usually use for concealment. Any thoughts and opinions about holsters would be appreciated!

Get it. MY friend shot my m-9 a month ago and sold his glock to get a m-40. these are great guns. mine does not like wolf ammo, it eats everything else though.

I have had my M 40 for about 9 months and have sent over a thousand rounds though it without a FTE or a FTF. I use it as my CCW and find it very comfortable to carry and conceal. It always hits POA and points like my index finger. I would say buy one now while they are cheap because they are a heck of a deal at that price.

Hi BrentK, I may who you were talking about at Glock Talk. I talked to Gregg at Comp-Tac on Friday. He told me that he owns a M40 and can make a holster for it. I picked up a S40 on Sunday and will be having him make me a holster for it. I have 2 Comp-Tac holsters and they are top notch if you are not familiar with them. I think you will need to call Comp-Tac if you want them to make a holster for your Steyr. Their # is 713.681.6881. Gregg is a great guy to work with!
