Hello Everyone,

I am contemplating the purchase of an STI Ranger II and was wondering if anybody could give me any thoughts and/or opinions on this pistol? I have not yet been able to actually shoot or even fondle one of these pistols, so I would appreciate hearing from someone who has.

How does the STI Ranger II stack up against the Kimber Pro CDP (which I have shot) for comparison purposes?

Any other suggestions for a commander sized 1911 in the $900-$1300 range which has similiar features to that of the Ranger II?

I’m looking to use this pistol as a range gun initially, then as a HD and CCW pistol.

Thanks for your time,
~Mike

No direct experience with the RangerII but had a Ranger and currently have a Trojan. Both have been the best guns Ive had for 1911's.

IMO, you cant go wrong with STI guns. People love Kimbers, Colts etc..but the other "great brand name 1911's" Ive had really cant compare to the overall quality, accuracy and reliability of the STI's.

Shoot well

My wife and I have both purchased STI Trojans (.45) from Dawson Precision in the last several months. I can't say they've been faultless, but they are breaking in nicely, and wickedly accurate.

I don't think you can get a better VALUE right now in a 1911 for the price.

I want a Ranger II. My only gripe is cosmetic. I think the stainless over blue is ugly. I'd prefer blue over stainless or chrome. Go figure.

I would strongly encourage anyone seeking an STI to deal with Dawson. Their prices are reasonable, and their customer service is exceptional.

Thanks guys for the responses I really appreciate it.

PCRCCW, very nice profile signature from my favorite band.

SADshooter, thanks for the suggesting Dawson, I have already checked out the website and am going to inquire about the Ranger II

Thanks Again,
~mike
