I am planning to acquire a new 1911-based handgun in 9mm (caliber choice dictated by ammo availability in this part of the world).
The gun is intended primarily for target shooting (relatively informal).
My shorlist so far boils down to a 5¨STI Trojan vs. Kimber Stainless Steel Target II.
Any wisdom or experience based input or alternative will be most welcome.
Many thanks

Between the STI & Kimber, I'd go STI. I prefer the fit, finish & performane of the STI's I've shot vs. the Kimbers.

I've never owned an STI, just read about them. I've owned several Kimbers, all 45s. Based on my actual experience with Kimber, I can easily say, buy the STI. If only half of what I've read good about STI guns is true, and you only believe half of what I've said bad about Kimbers, it's still an easy call!:D

I have the Target II with the matte finish. It has been downright perfect from the get-go. No malfunctions, no break-in, crazy accurate. My only complaint would be the finish and for you, that would not be an issue since you are getting the stainless.

Saying that, I have never shot a STI, but from fondling them quite a lot, they do feel well-built. I have only heard good things about them.

Personally, I think you should feel completely at ease purchasing either.
