I would dare think I am like most people in that I do not usually holster or even pocket carry around the house in my sweats, or a robe, or even in my casual clothes deep into the evening or when I first get up.

However, without fail a few times a year, the door gets knocked on unexpectedly at night or early on a weekend morning. I have several stashed firearms at the ready if my pocket carry revolver or my IWB 1911A1 is not an easy fetch. I will carry one of these "invasion stashers" with me to the door just in case.

Every time, the door has been a neighbor or an unannounced relative. This state of affairs, due to the layout of my entry way, results in my stashing the weapon in my pants or robe. I don’t like freaking people out needlessly. In particular, several of my clueless relatives on my wife’s side are about as sheepleish as they come and the debate is certainly not worth the hassle. So. . . .

“Mexican Carry” is best left to a revolver or an auto with a manual safety on it.

Since whatever service caliber pieces I am into at the moment serve as the stash guns, I usually buy new ones with an eye towards it serving in that role. I was thinking of getting an S&W M&P9 because I like my wife’s, but then I can’t see sticking that thing into my waistband without a holster.

So instead, I find myself eyeing the Beretta PX4 and the CZ-SP01 because they can be just stuffed down the front or SOB without worrying about cloth in the trigger and only a slight CA pull weight.

Am I being a lunatic for rejecting “safety-less” autos solely because they have to be carried in a holster as best safety practice?

Hmm...the CZ SP-01 is a pretty hefty gun. If you stuffed it in your pants without a holster your pants might come falling down. :D

I get dressed in morning gun is on me and I stay dressed till bed. My carry pistol always on me as is BUG. I don't answer any door unless dressed . and If I don't know you I won't open door . I also moved and now live in country so I won't be bothered with unwanted vistors.
People should stay home unless you call and invite them to visit.

Put one of those picture frame gun hider boxes from Sportsman's Guide near the door so you can simply pop it in there and open the door...

I do not own an auto without a safety, but a PX4 is not what comes to mind when some say "small". My PX4 sometimes gets tucked into the back of my belt, but I cannot imagine stuffing it in my shorts or sweats...they would promptly fall down around my ankles.

Just hear me out

Hello Boats,

I read your story, and pictured it well. IF it works for you, that's what counts.

Let me share with you how it is in my house. First and foremost, the wife being very very new to guns, and no kids, just 1 German Shepherd, and 1 cat, I carry either my Px4 40cal, or my Sig P229R Carry 9mm in the same, 15 dollar, Uncle Mikes # 15 IWB Neopreme/rubber, as in a very very thin wet suit with a flexible plastic clip-on. It's absolutely flat, if no gun in it, and NO break-in EVER, it molds to your body, fits in any pocket, IWB, SOB, IFWB, back pocket, wherever you want it, or carry your gun, room to room.

The other reason I like them, for all my other guns is, that they also protect them from scratches, putting them in the safe, etc., etc.,

The reason I like it besides its flexible applications, and it's sooo easy to move to one place to another on your person, but it's also closed at the bottom, meaning, the guns don't get any spiders, lol, really, any dirt, dust, in them along with, I can assure you, it holds either gun, even though the Px is bit longer than the Sig, and the Sig is a bit wider than the Px, but it holds either one like a glove, on your person, wherever you have it, yet you can draw out your gun from it, like it was ice..

And my wife knows, if ANY of my guns are in that holster, then they are loaded, one in the chamber, and is in DA mode, and is easily manually put into SA mode faster than this sentence.. lol

Take a look at one, you'll laugh, but when you see how this simple but most-worthy-mention of an all-around, do-all, holster works and, it will never leave a holster mark, nor make you sweat, or if you sweat, it doesn't care, cause the gun is, and stays, dry as it breaths out but does not take in moisture. And it feels warm, never gets hot, unlike a cold piece of bare gun metal up against your skin, adding just a smidge of Neophreme padding between you and your gun and, if you have your gun out, and your holster in a pocket, IWB, etc, you'll forget its there, cause you can't feel it, other than when you happen to think, "it's still on, or there"

But, keep on doing what makes you comfy..

My best,

LS
