yeah, when my great aunt died , I had to clear her house , and I have found 30 years of
"Better Homes and Gardens" in her basement. Neatly stacked up.
To her it was worth collecting all that.
Just as some people like sitting on 45,000 rounds of Thunderbolts :)

I didn't realize we were talking about "collecting" ammo just to have it and never shoot it and never pass it to anybody that would shoot it.

30 year old ammo (stored properly) is waaaay more useful, relevant, and valuable than 30 year old outdated "home living" magazines.

Unless you're trying to figure out if the new sofa should be plaid or pale green to better match the wood paneling in the living room. :neener:

I've been around this game for about 25 years, and ammo is not going to get much cheaper than it is right now.....if you want to stock up, now is the time.

Best,

Will

buying unnecessary thousands of ammunition (while having several thousand already)

What do you suggest the OP do, wait til there's a panic and THEN buy? He should be stocking up on ammo while it's on the shelves at a reasonable price. The ones who wait til the last minute are always the ones crying about shortages.

The laws of supply and demand don't wait for procrastinators.
Exactly. Waiting for the time when everybody else is raiding the store selves like vultures is the wrong time to stock up. Now's the right time and just because you hate the way human nature acts doesn't mean people acting proactively doesn't mean it's the wrong thing to do.

What is wrong and has been happening the past several years is those who buy all the .22 Long Rifle at the big box stores who don't even own a gun and hold onto it to sell during the next panic for 5 times the original price.

For me, I have absolutely no moral quandary over holding more than 5000 rds of .22 that I bought over the last couple years with MY hard earned money when I would just see it for sale.

Admittedly, we experience spikes like happened post-Sandy Hook. But as a rule, ammunition will never be cheaper than it is today. How much ammo do i plan on buying in the near future? I just bought an even dozen .50 caliber ammo cans. They'll go nicely with the others i already have. (plus my shelves collapsed so i have to reorganize).

I doubt ammo will be less expensive any time in the near future. It's one of those commodities that will practically last forever. If you have the means to do so, buying now will be a hedge against future price spikes.

Think of the smile it will put on your face when you take out a brick of 500 .22 cartridges as I did recently and saw the old sale price of $8.99. ;)

IMHO the "stock up" price for 9mm would be about $10.00 a box for US made practice ammo.

Which is right where we are now. Federal aluminum 9mm has long been $9.97 a box at Walmart, and lately I've been seeing the Italian-made,brass-cased Perfecta also for under $10 a box. Me and my shooting bud have had excellent experience with both.

I have not purchased a firearm in several months because I decided to put that money into ammo as a hedge.
9mm is my main caliber. I don't know how many pistols I have as well as three carbines. I have reloading components for many thousands of rounds and have accumulated a nice collection of brass but I do not reload it now because I can buy steel case ammo so cheap.
I have been buying cases of 115gn on line for $.172 per round delivered to my house. I loaded up on 124 gn (higher priced)first for the suppressors and plan to get several more cases over the next few months.

Will it likely get cheaper than now? No
Will it get easier to acquire than now? No

Looks like buying now is better than deferring until later...

I never stop buying factory ammo as long as the price is right (for my wallet). What I mean is if the average price for a box of 9mm is $20 right now, and $20 won't hurt me financially, I buy it, regardless if I was paying $13 a box a year ago. I reload as well, so I never stop buying components either. Factory ammo provides shooting without the work of reloading and cases for reloading. You can't have too much ammo!

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Gloom/doom predictions aside, I think bulk buys at ~.20/round of brass cased FMJ/TMJ 9mm are a fair offering and easy to find these days, so have at it.

I don't even want to count the 9mm brass I have but, as long as I can buy factory ammo on the cheap I am saving the components and letting Tula do my work for me.

Another vote to buying ammo now. Supplies are generous and on sale at good prices.

It would better to be a reloader however.

We will know come July during the Republican National Convention if the RNC will nominate a candidate that supports conservatives and gun owners. Frankly I expect the RNC lead by Mitch O'Connell to reject conservatives and embrace a "moderate" candidate who supports "reasonable" gun control.

If anyone needed to 'stock up' they should have done it by now because the shelves have been full of everything for well over a yr.

(With the exception of .22 of course)

Stock up? Yes. Now is the time.
Stock up on ammo? Sure, if you don't value your money. You should be stocking up on reloading components, much more bang for your buck!

I cast, powder coat, & reload.

I have jugs of powder. Note that is a "s" as in many.

I have sleeves upon sleeves of primers. Again, note that is a "s".

Life is good, very good.
