I don't play a lawyer on TV, but I'd say you're safe. You were smart to immediately report the gun theft to the police. That should cover you. You might ask the police for some paperwork confirming all this, just to be protected 10 years from now after your local PD has gone through multiple staffing and data systems changes.
About the only scenario where you could be vulnerable is if the gun was stolen by someone you know/associated with... who claims you gave/sold it to him. If you suspect any such shady acquaintances (who may have known you habitually left the gun in your car) I'd seriously consider mentioning their names to the police.
Hope ya get it back, but...
The odds are that it'll be recovered way down the road when the cops raid some punks' crack/meth den/stolen vehicle and find your gun in the process. They'll run its Serial Numbers through the computers, it'll show up stolen, then it'll sit in a police Evidence Room for a loooong time.
