Was not to pleased with the as received finish on the Story ejector rod housing I received from Midway. Did a little research on these forums and decided on using Van's Instant Blue over Oxpho-Blue due to cost. The con-caved surfaces of the housing had a mat finish that did not match any of the Ruger Blackhawk's finish. I cut it down with a wood dowel wrapped with 320 paper, then 800 paper, and final polish with a dremel buffer and rouge. This got the metal nice and shiny. I used a tooth brush to apply the Van's with a hot water rinse between about 6 applications. I think it came out pretty good.

Wait for a final verdict after two months or so.

The problem with all cold blue is, no matter how good a job you do, you will need to do it again very shortly to keep it looking that way.

No, I am just saying it won't stay looking like it does right after you do it very long.

Cold blue has none of the long-term wear resistance or rust protection afforded by real hot-salts bluing.

Cold slow rust-bluing is another matter. It is very good, but it isn't Instant cold blue either.
