I’m looking for a lightweight minimalist stock for an upcoming AR build (5.56) and I keep coming back to Strike’s Viper Carbine. Anyone have experience to share on this one or their other products? I’d go MOE but then I’d spend more money to get a QD mounting point for the sling and I kinda like the curved heel on the Viper. Anyway, thoughts? Something else you prefer around $50?

Mission First Tactical Minimalist. Love mine, very solid. I dont know wht else to say about it. Im no operator but for a truck/range/bed side gun it has been perfect. I see them for $50 most places.

Looks like this. I can get the MFT locally but I was thinking it has no QD attachment method? Could be mistaken. I’ve gotten used to it with my RRA (and I’m no operator either) but I’d like one method that works for teaching the family with.

The MFT has a QD hole, it's just on the under side in front of the adjustment lever. I don't personally use it, so I had to look. I've been using a $7 MidwayUSA 2-point sling.

For what it's worth, I remember reading that some folks don't lime the MFT design because it essentially I big hook that can catch gear.

Ah, so it does! I’ll add it to my list. I don’t shoot with a chest rig so I’m not overly concerned about that, mainly looking for weight savings in a solid package.

I like the Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock and have it on two rifles right now. There’s an easy way to keep the stock from getting hooked on things, you just need a little bit of paracord.

My son, Isaac, went with the Viper on his rifle. I ordered the rubber buttplate for the Viper and it stays in the shoulder better .

I've used the mft on a couple builds for others I like them. I don't care if they are hangy uppy, they are pretty light and we'll made.
Gunny's Paracord option is a nice way to keep them from grabbing stuff also. I think you can actually buy them set up like that....I could be wrong tho, just kinda remember seeing it as an option.

Another option I've used a few times are the Trinity force (bought at least one under another name) stocks. I've got an Alpha on my current build. It's the cheapest option that I like.

The stock I personally like the most is ATIs Tactlite. It light, solid, and the wiggles easy to take out by shimming (more so than other stocks as you can take out the whole section that houses the locking pin, and bears on the underside of the buffer tube.).
The only down side is they are about 40 bucks.

Cancel that....last time i liked the atis were about 40 bucks, they are much cheaper now....i may swap out my Alpha for one....

I have their Modular Fixed Stock on my AR. Wanted a little longer length of pull and something a little more solid than most carbine stocks. It was the perfect solution for what I wanted, I've been very happy with it. I also replaced my A2 birdcage with their J-Comp.

I have their Modular Fixed Stock

I like it, but my current current stock spends most of its time retracted and this one probably will too. That MFT is growing on me with one exception; if you eliminate the snag hazard, the cord runs over top the sling attachment point.

been using the MFT for a while. I like it. haven't seen the strike before, but i might like it even better. is it well made?

I just realized my above alludes to my owning one when I meant his looks like a good fixed stock. I do hope @BigBL87 will answer that though and @GunnyUSMC on the quality of the Strike. Eventually I’d like a simplified “bench” AR, maybe in .224 Valkyrie. That’s conditional on both reclaiming more spare time and joining the second local club which offers a 600 yard range. At present I’m limited to 200 with the occasional farm trip that allows me limited practice to 400 or so without range amenities.

What I’ve purchased for this build is an stripped Anderson lower, mil spec extension, and RRA standard LPK with their Varmint trigger (3.5 lbs). The upper will most likely be another PSA but pencil profile with irons/RDS. I have 2 Leupold Mark ARs looking for homes that will also see use in training kids (eventually) since 3 of the 6 have very limited exposure to optics on rifles.

What was your question? I thought the statement was about the Mission First Tactical (MFT) stock, not mine. I was just more commenting for the overall quality of Strike Industries' stuff.

@BigBL87,

Originally I was soliciting any and all comments on Strike products with an emphasis on the Viper, but curious about quality on anything else people are running from ergonomics to durability. It sounds like Strike and MFT are both building good stuff.

My post was a bit garbled; originally I was commenting on your Modular Fixed Stock that I liked it, meaning it looks to be a good stock. What I wrote sounded more like I owned one and mine was somehow retractable. My apologies for all the confusion.

Well the Memorial Day sale at Primary Arms got me off the fence and for $34.99 I ordered the Strike, Mod1 Blk/Red. Grabbed a set of TD pins and charging handle with oversized latch as well. I had planned on $48 for the stock alone but got the whole lot for under $70.

Looks great, small and light, overall I think it should work perfectly.

Price aside, I preferred the QD location to the MFT which would have otherwise won out. I think it will indeed need the rubber skid plate to keep from sliding up when shouldered.

How does that angled butt work for you? I’ve looked at those but I think the way I shoulder an AR the angled part would be the only thing on my shoulder.

For off-hand practice I have a VTac 2-point mounted port side, forward on the rail and back on the buttstock. This allows the rifle to hang vertically and when drawn to ready, my support hand follows the sling to the forend, right hand goes to grip, and the butt slips right into my shoulder pocket.

I dropped both my uppers into this lower and the stock came up to ready, with the exception previously noted of slipping a bit high. I’m going with @GunnyUSMC’s advice and order the rubber buttpad.

I put an Ace Skeleton Stock on my build. If you want a light weight stock that isn’t very expensive and don’t mind a fixed stock it’s really nice. They also have a minimalistic one too. So you might want to consider them if you’re still looking.

That’s an option I considered early on, but my youngest is still waiting on his first growth spurt (he’s 57 lbs with boots on) and my oldest is set to pass the 6’ mark this summer and there are 4 girls between them of varying stature. Right now I just want something they can run while earning their own individual rifles, but I’ve liked the ACE from the first day I fired an AR.

Depending on how fast kids earn rifles I may well change a few parts around on this one or, wouldn’t you know it, my FFL had this little gem waiting for me this week, another couldn’t pass it up deal at $50. If none of the kids want to build on it, I’ll surely take one for the team!
