Hello, everyone. I'm a longtime member who was out of the handgunning game for about a year due to work and other stuff. But of course I never got rid of my guns or CHL, and as of June I've started heading out to the range again.

I plan this thread to be documentation of my trips to the range and attempts to get my skills back to snuff after a long hiatus.

Please feel free to drop in and tell me what you think...good or bad.

June Range Trips

Here's my June 1st Range Trip. I hadn't shot in a year at this point, so be kind and gentle. All targets were shot with my Glock 17 @ 7 yards, 25 shots per target.

Here's my June 26th range trip. Targets 1,3, and 4 were shot with my Glock 17 @ 7 yards, 50 shots per. Target 2 was shot with my friend's Browning Buckmark @ 7 yards, 50 shots.

Anyhow, that's it for now. More to come.

Nobody's got anything to say?!?! Well, I'll go shooting again soon and post more pics here, we'll see

YAY! Somebody commented on my range reports. I'm gonna try and get out to the range tomorrow and post those targets.

Lets see some pics of the gun and maybe a description and pics of ammo used.

Glad to hear you are back to putting in a little trigger time. Please include a little more info on your report --- one hand or two , full mag or partial , apx. time between shots , indoors or outdoors etc.

With my .45 autos , I usually shoot 3 strings of 3 shots each = a 8 rd. Wilson mag and one rd. chambered -- I use 10 yards as a start , pistol either holstered { if range allowed } or in a Low Ready two hand hold. Also , I use a Pact timer to start and record each string.

I find I do best keeping a range session at around 200 centerfire rds. and maybe a little more with the .22RFs --- after more then 400/500 rds. in three hours or so , I find myself getting "sloppy" and my groups really open up !!!

Anyway , good shooting and glad your back at it.

Hmm, well as for form, this is how I do it.

1. Start from a low ready, raise gun to target. Grip is two handed, weak hand on base of dominant hand.
2. Line up rear sight with front, "focus" on front sight and target.
3. I fire quickly, but not rapid fire, prob a little more then 1 shot per second. About 6 shots in 5 seconds.
4. Drop empty mag, insert second, hit slide release, repeat.

I want to simulate self defense situation as much as possible. And I like the small targets because they simulate vital areas like a chest cavity or a head. I'm not into the one handed, weak hand on hip, take 5 seconds between trigger pulls bullseye shooting. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and some of those guys can keep their shots in a dime at 25 yards, but that's not something that interests me as my guns are self defense tools.

I usually limit it to 25 to 50 shots per individual target, because any more you can't tell where the bullets are going.

Anyhow, next time it will be the CZ-75 and the Kahr PM9. I'll post pics of that too.

Here are the results of today's trip to the range. Phew, its easier to get out to the range when unemployed. :D

I practiced with the CZ the way I've described above, starting at low ready. With the Kahr PM9, I drew from my Uncle Mike's pocket holster, the way I would/will carry it should it prove itself over time.

"Fast Fire" is what I described above, shooting a little more then 1 round a second. "Slow Fire" is about one round ever 2 seconds, giving me time to re-sight each shot.

As yall can see, I need a lot of work with the Kahr, as I'm all over the place. These targets are about 10 -12 inches wide, so at least I'm within the torso of the perp. I'm pretty happy with my shooting with the CZ-75, as its the most accurate gun I own (at least in my hands).

Comments Welcome!!!!!

For the Kahr if you are right handed try adding more weak hand support by placing your left hand higher on the frame if possible. By the way your groups drift low and to the left it just looks like your left hand needs a lil stiffening up.

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I tend to shoot a little high and to the left.

I need to get out and shoot the j-frame, too. Anyone know where I can get cheap 38 special in Central Texas??:)
