re: XD, Glock, M&P9 which is best once modified, trigger, barrel, etc., does one of them really stand out, win more often?

I see Bar-Sto works on XD's. I've only gotten to shoot bone stock models of each of these and they seemed pretty similar, I thought the XD and M&P felt nicer, yet the one I onw is the Glock 19. I'm considering a G34 or G17L but figured I should research the others.

only two striker fired pistols id be interested in are the walther PPQ and the arsenal strike one

So far the best out-of-the-box trigger I have found on a striker fired gun has been the Ruger SR9c.

The Sig P320 is the best out of the box servive pistol bar none. The ruger is not remotely close nor are the others.

This question is impossible to answer objectively, especially with the generic "once modified" clause.

Win more often? Well, that part is easy to answer...Glock. Go to competitions or check the results, Glocks are used to win more competitions than the others.

What exactly qualifies as "after being modified"? If it's just getting the trigger worked on to get rid of the creep and lighten it up a little, Glock, XD, and M&P all have plenty of options out there.

If you go by what's got the most readily available aftermarket parts and accessories market, it's definitely Glock, though the M&P, XD, and some others are catching up (P30 and VP9/40).

Begs the question, which striker fired guns operate from a full cock? That would lead to it having the "best" trigger as no additional compression of the striker spring would be necessary.

Most bolt actions work that way, triggers are short as can be and notoriously too light when customers are allowed to adjust them - ie Rem 700.

So, who will be first to offer a full cock striker set up with two pound trigger and fraction of an inch travel and reset? It's just a matter of parts, and there is no extra liability compared to a SA 1911. Common enough practice.

Right, NIH, too new to accept, etc.

They have been on the market for years, Charlie Vanek, and others, have them where you can get rid of all your pre-travel and have a 2lb trigger. (using a set screw in the trigger housing)

While they are really only for competition, definitely not safe to carry.

I run Vanek triggers in all my glocks (Not the tunable ones). However, I ONLY use my glocks for competition.

Who says a 2 lb trigger with a tiny travel and reset would be good/best? Not I.

This is an odd question. Best? Modified? Modified how, and by who? Too much ambiguity there. As others have pointed out, full cock or half cocked strikers plays a part too, so it's based on preference really.

I have handled a lot of striker guns, and I own an XDs because it carries well, not because I care for the trigger, and a VP9 because it's fun to shoot and I really like the trigger. FNS triggers feel good to me also, and I believe that is a half cock design. Sig 320, meh trigger. Wasn't that impressed, but not disappointed either. Full size Xd's, yeah they are ok. But this is all preferences, and may not apply to the next person.

So you are looking for a pistol for competition use?

My preference is the S&W MP9 and MP9c. with the Apex Duty/Carry triggering system along with 10-8 sight system (front night sight and plain U-notch rear sight) The MP9 OEM magazine floor plates replaced with the Apex/10-8 floor plates. The OEM barrels are acceptable on both the MP9 & MP9c.

I have a Glock 34 I shoot IDPA with. It has a Bazooka trigger or
some such thing. It is a very nice trigger and easy to shoot with.
All you need to do is buy a Glock and have a good smith or a guy
that knows what he's doing to trick it out for you.

Best or not, you will be able to find more everything aftermarket for a Glock than all the rest. I have several Glocks, the only one with an original Glock trigger is a G17, that has the trigger from a G34. Have to have Glock internals for GSSF. Availability of parts and accessories, cost of extra magazines made up my mind, never regretted going with Glock. G34 for USPSA, G17 for GSSF, G34 with a Surefire X400 night stand pistol, G19 for EDC, G26 glove box gun, not one is as it came out of the box.

I do not plan to enter competition, just looking at what we are allowed here in California and to choose one choose wisely. I own a G19 and have messed with the various parts and settled on 3lbs. 15oz pull for my purposes which is shooting for fun at an indoor range.

Friends encourage me to look at 1911's, 2011's, and I'm just thinking keep it simple, go with 5" XD or Glock and so, I thought I'd take a look before settling on one of these at what my other options are. The G17L is interesting too. I will probably go with a red dot due to my eyes aging
