Stupid idiots firing guns at New Years.

I heard alot of shooting last nite from about 11:30pm-1am mostly handguns and a few shotguns still not as bad as it used to be when i was little "rifles going off like full auto", but i'll take it as an improvment. shooting in the city is bad for every one driving out to the desert the next morning is another matter:)

I shot off a box of shells from my mossberg into the ground, right after the ball droped and my g/f's folks a alot of leftover bottle rockets and roman candles from this past 4th July.Everybody had fun.

Well, it made the news.

A bullet went through the roof and impact about a foot from a baby's head. That was about 4 blocks from where I live.

I used to have a .22 cal starter pistol that only fired blanks. That was the only gun I've ever used to celebrate new years.

About 20 years ago I was at a friend's house and around midnight we all went outside to cheer (whoop it up so-to-speak) when another friend came outside with a double barrelled 20 ga. shotgun. He was totally wasted from too much beer and could barely stand up. I got the shotgun away from him before he could even get it loaded and had someone else put it away secretly. Who knows who he could have shot?

I was about to suggest that gun stores should prominently display a selection of blanks throughout December, to get idiots to use those instead.

On second thought, that might cause even more mayhem, ironically enough.

Idiot A would think that it was a great practical joke to fire blanks at his friends from two feet away (causing ear and eye injuries)

Idiot B would stage fake drive-bys, etc. and get shot back at by cops or citizens.

Idiot C would be "like, 110% positive" that he loaded blanks, and dump a half-mag of FMJ into his buddies.

So, on second thought, idiots are dangerous with blanks too...

my fiance called me from Mexico, shortly into the convo I heard her mom shriek to the sounds of either full auto fire or a bunch of rifles.. was pretty disheartening to hear that, but I talked to her a sec ago so apparently she lived through the night.

No gunplay last night around my area. It's been lighter and lighter over the past 10 years or so. Back then, at least, it was mostly shotguns, though a few idiots were using rifles or pistols. This time; nothing but fireworks. And not much of that either.

I had some fireworks but I just didn't feel like it.

Around here, it's all fireworks. And we go all out. One of our neighbors across Cypresswood is a fire marshall and he had about $2000 worth to shoot off. (And you guys wonder why I refuse to move :D ) Our near neighbors were disappointed because we went to a party at our church and didn't play this year. (But man, can Archerandshooter and I still dance to "Old Time Rock n Roll") :what: :D

By the time we got home, my asthma was acting up and I had to put a paper napkin over my face to breathe on the way into the house, there was so much gunpowder smoke still hanging in the air. All legal, all fireworks. Love it.

we need to embrace multiculturalism, all men of every race and color are equally idiotic

You are quite correct sir. Stupidity recognizes no race, creed or color. There is an ample supply, enough for all to partake of if they wish. As the old college prof said...."I can fix ignorance but stupid is forever".

A bullet falling from the sky will not go through a roof unless ya live in a doublewide.

Mythbreakers simulated a bullets terminal velocity, not very impressive. I think the ABC account is bull...

I am sure deaths caused by rounds being fired "in the air" were not by rounds fired straight up or even near straight up.

yea?

"A bullet falling from the sky will not go through a roof unless ya live in a doublewide.

falling is one thing fired at an angle they retain more velocity. like i said you can hypothesize all you want in the face of hard evidence. theres a post here with pictures of a guy with a rifle bullet through foot.

In this day and age, we need to be cognizant of peoples' sensibilities. There are enough gun-grabbers out there to make us very circumspect in the use of firearms. Random shooting is never a good idea. I don't give a flying flip about Myth Busters. Why give the anti-gun people anything they can use?

It seems to me that the "cry babies" are advocating responsible gun ownership. This is, afterall, The Highroad. Looking at the quality of your nine posts, I suspect that taking the highroad would be something that you just haven't quite caught on to.:uhoh:

When I was a kid my dad would also touch off his shotgun on New Years over the woods but pistols and rifles are totally different. I heard some form of high power rifle (not any .223 for sure) a few blocks away and cringed at the thought of where that would land. Sadly idiots always seem to be intent on ruining the fun for everyone else. Me I just stick to a few fireworks left over from the 4th.

J nagant,

Yes, I believe that they should have their guns taken away for recklessness.

I don't give a damm if the person shooting the firearms is using blanks or not. Are they at a forum where blanks are expected? How would you react of any other time of the year some bubba shoots his bolt action rifle into the air, not straight up, but at an angle where it may hit someone hundreds of yards away. When the cops show up, will he claim that the gun was shooting blanks? I bet he will go to jail.
