Stupid idiots firing guns at New Years.

I remember one New Years in LA county some idiot decided to fire his unreg class III from his backyard. Unsurprisingly, our neighborhood was full of cops that night, and a few weeks later his house was vacant.

I can understadn the celabratory nature of firing to ring in the new year, but most folks should know by now not to fire up and not to discharge firearms in the city.

Did that at midnight on a friend's land on the nearby hill with some friends. Lots of tracers, incendiaries, and raufoss rounds too.

It felt... american. :)

The neighbors and myself shot off several rounds on New Years.

Of course I have a big old mountain in the back of my house to shoot into and the next human habitation is a 10 hour boat ride or 40 minute flight beyond it.:D

We'll only start worrying if you decide to shoot ICBM's on New Year's. :uhoh:

If you do, let us know first, okay?

new years

is about the ONLY time I unload, with no control of any sort, full max cap magazines of perfectly good ammo, fireworks, rockets, shotgun tubes, and tracers with oblivion and utter stupidity. (maybe 4th)

the spirit of wildness and freedom comes in many forms, and when no one is around you, and you are firing in the general direction of solid ground and a mountain, I believe its ok. I don't drink and shoot.
st

ps - aware of backdrop, vocal warnings, and visual check are SOP, no vegetation for concealed kids, and no one on property anyway.

Don't hear it too much in Az, Shannons Law works I guess. One night some thugs at a house party on my street let loose 12 rounds from a 9mm. and shot two people in the leg. This was about 2 months ago. I woke up immediately grabbed my Ak-47(was between 870's), you could hear people running through everyones yards. I didnt want some crazed gang member running in my house to escape the police, who were already on the street when the shooting broke out and still didnt catch the people as far as I know. Lousy punks. I found bullet holes in the Apt. building that served as a backstop to the shooting. All this in Sleepy little Flagstaff. No one died, but it was a real shocker.

Idiotic

Here in Puerto Rico lots of people en up dead because of this stupid practice. Mostly innocent persons. Guns are meant to be fired in a range or at a person that itends to do bodily harm. Of couse unless your are hunting. No one shall discharge weapons in to the air in highly populated areas it just asking for trouble.

Luckly I am out of the way and don't have to worry about hitting anyone but even then I tend to still shoot into the backdrop. Its one of the few times a year I get to shoot in the dark and stock up on tracer ammo. and getting big flashes.

Of course I didn't get to do it this year as it decided to pour down 4 inches of rain that night.

Shoot, in Albuquerque where I lived, moved to the mountains, they do it all year long! Just more on New Years. More so even on the 4th of July....damn, sounds like a firefight out there on the fourth!

You ain't kidding, here in Houston, it was like the Tet Offensive. I chose to stay inside and shot guns virtually, thanks to my lil' friend Battlefield 2142.

whaddya mean?

Rain is great weather for firing tracers!

:D

(if you don't mind really cleaning your rifle...but boy that hot bath feels good after an hour crawling in the rain, trying to keep your camera dry AND catching tracer shots into the dark)
heheh

I woke up to no phone service on New Years Day and had none for most of the day. Turns out some bonehead shot a fiber optic junction box with a shotgun at sixteen minutes after midnight. Two local exchanges were down and Embarq has said that it cost them $20,000 in damage. Be awful nice if this fine individual had to pay for it.
